πŸ’œJune is National Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month

Did you know?

🧠 Nearly 2 in 3 Americans living with Alzheimer's are women.
🧠 A woman's lifetime risk of developing Alzheimer's is 1 in 5, compared to 1 in 10 for men.
🧠 Women also make up two-thirds of unpaid dementia caregivers.

Don't wait for symptoms. Talk to your doctor, know your risks, and advocate for yourself and the women you love.πŸ’œ

πŸ’œ Brain health matters. Awareness matters.

πŸ’™ What a beautiful and heartfelt way to close out our Soroptimist year! πŸ’™

At our final business meeting of the year, we took time to celebrate and recognize some truly remarkable women whose leadership, dedication, and service have made a lasting impact on our club and our region.

✨ We expressed our deepest gratitude to President Christina Marmolejo for her incredible three years of service and leadership. As a token of our appreciation, she was presented with a beautiful scrapbook filled with cherished memories from her presidency.

🌹 We also honored Liz Glowka for her outstanding service as Golden West Region Governor. Her leadership and commitment have inspired Soroptimists throughout the region, and she was gifted a white rose bush to commemorate her term.

πŸ’ Congratulations to member Tina Wade, who was surprised with a beautiful bouquet in celebration of her upcoming marriage this month! We wish her a lifetime of happiness and love.

πŸ’› We were also thrilled to welcome our newest member, Cyndi Diaz, to Soroptimist of Big Bear Valley. While she may be new to our mountain community, she is certainly not new to Soroptimist, having proudly served as an active Soroptimist for 15 years. We are excited to have her experience, passion, and dedication as part of our club.

Thank you to all of these extraordinary women for the difference you make in our community and beyond. Here's to another year of empowering women and girls through education, opportunity, and service!

As we wrap up an incredible Golden West Region Spring Conference, we want to recognize two outstanding leaders from our own club.

Thank you to Liz Glowka for her dedicated service as Golden West Region Governor over the past two years. Through her theme, "How Does Your Soroptimist Glow?" Liz inspired members across the region to lead with purpose and passion. We are proud to call her one of our own and grateful for the leadership and guidance she continues to bring to our club.

We are also excited to celebrate Charlie Van Cleve, who was nominated as Governor-Elect. Charlie's commitment to Soroptimist and her years of service make us incredibly proud, and we look forward to supporting her in this next chapter of leadership.

Our club is fortunate to benefit from the experience, dedication, and heart of these remarkable women. Congratulations, Liz and Charlie!

Seventeen young women. Seventeen unique paths ahead.

This year, we were honored to award educational scholarships to every applicant in our High School Senior Awards Program. Through their applications and interviews, we learned about their goals, challenges, and dreams for the futureβ€”from healthcare and education to public service and beyond.

We are proud to support these remarkable young women as they take their next steps and look forward to all they will accomplish.

🀩This year's Golden West Region Spring Conference was incredibly memorable, and SIBBV had many wins and key takeaways.
We were recognized for membership retention and as a founder and donor of Doves, featuring guest speaker Helen Adams.
We also had one of the highest club attendance rates, participated in a lip-syncing contest, and had many opportunities to let our light shine. ✨

πŸ’™We are so grateful to our members who took the time to attend and share in these moments.

Until next year, Golden West Region!

After 10 fun, hard weeks of training, our local Girls on the Run (GOTR), Heart & Sole team completed their 5k run at the Big Bear Alpine Zoo! Way to go, girls!!

This is the third year that The Mom & Dad Project has brought the Girls on the Run program to the Big Bear Valley. SIBBV is proud to coach alongside The Mom & Dad Project, with multiple returning and new members joining the 2026 season! The GOTR mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Envisioning a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams is the core vision.

Financial barriers should never be the reason a girl can't participate. SIBBV has partnered with The Mom and Dad Project to sponsor any middle school aged girl in the Big Bear area that needs a little extra assistance.

We can't wait for next season!!

"I was really excited to go to college, and receiving the Soroptimist award ensured that I’d be able to cover my college expenses and have a stable cushion to fall back on financially, if anything happened. " - Tyki Cantu-Wang, 2025 High School Award recipient.

This Thursday, June 4th, we celebrate the 2026 High School Awards here in Big Bear! Congratulations to the class of 2026! We look forward to seeing you pursue your future and educational dreams!

Stay tuned to learn more about Tyki and our 2026 recipients!

Breaking the cycle of period poverty β€” one pack at a time.

SIBBV members gathered Wednesday to socialize and assemble period packs for our local food banks, along with bins of feminine hygiene necessities for local school sites. ❀️

Period poverty causes girls to miss school, fall behind, and lose opportunities they deserve. We're here to change that.

We’ve got you, girl. πŸ’•

Through the SIA initiative, Soroptimists across the Americas are shining a light on period poverty β€” the inability to afford or access menstrual products, safe facilities, and education around menstrual health.
