One of the gifts of camp is learning to slow down and notice what God has made.

At Cedarbrook, Creation Appreciation is more than simply spending time outdoors. It means helping campers look closely, ask questions, explore with curiosity, and grow in their understanding of the world God created.

Whether it’s spotting wildlife, hiking a trail, watching the stars, or simply taking in the mountains, these moments invite wonder—and remind us that God’s handiwork is all around us.

Cedarbrook is more than a place people visit for a week.

It’s a community made up of campers, parents, volunteers, alumni, churches, ministry partners, and families who have been connected to camp across generations.

Every person carries a different piece of the story.

Maybe Cedarbrook introduced you to lifelong friends. Maybe your child came home with more confidence. Maybe you served on staff, grew in your faith, or watched someone you love discover something new.

Summer camp may only happen for a few weeks each year, but Cedarbrook is a year-round ministry.

Between summers there is prayer, planning, volunteer preparation, fundraising, program development, and the work of getting ready to welcome families back again.

There are also opportunities beyond summer camp including Mother/Daughter Weekend and leadership development through CILT.

The goal remains the same throughout the year: helping children and adults grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ.

One of our favorite Cedarbrook stories is seeing campers grow up and begin serving others.

A child may first come to camp learning a new skill and finding their place in a cabin group. Years later, that same camper may enter CILT, develop leadership skills, and eventually return as a volunteer who encourages the next generation.

Cedarbrook’s Camper in Leadership Training program is designed to help teens LEARN, LIVE, and LEAD—growing in responsibility, service, and their relationship with Jesus Christ.

It’s one of the ways the Cedarbrook story keeps going from generation to generation.

Creation Appreciation is one of Cedarbrook’s four core values, and it’s about much more than simply spending time outside.

Camp gives children space to look closely, ask questions, explore, and recognize the beauty and order of what God has made.

Whether it’s spotting wildlife, studying something on the trail, watching the stars, or simply enjoying a quiet mountain morning, we want campers to leave with a greater sense of wonder and responsibility for God’s creation.

For 80 years, Cedarbrook has been shaped by the people who have walked through its gates.

Our story began in 1946 as Camp Cherith Southern California. Since then, generations of campers, families, volunteers, and staff have helped carry this ministry forward.

Some first came to camp as children and later returned as counselors. Others found lifelong friendships, grew in their faith, or discovered a desire to serve the next generation.

The name and programs may have changed over the years, but the heart of Cedarbrook remains the same: helping children and adults grow in a dynamic relationship with Jesus Christ.

That kind of legacy is something we never take for granted.

Every Cedarbrook story is a little different.

Maybe camp was where you made a lifelong friend.

Maybe your camper came home more confident after learning something new.

Maybe it was a conversation with a counselor, a night around the campfire, or a moment when God felt especially close.

Those stories are part of what makes Cedarbrook a community that continues long after everyone goes home.

At Cedarbrook, faith isn’t something reserved for one part of the schedule.

It’s woven into the whole day.

Campers open God’s Word together, pray and worship, but they’re also encouraged to recognize Christ while hiking a trail, learning a new skill, sharing a meal, caring for their cabin, or encouraging a friend.

That idea — Christ in all aspects of life — has shaped Cedarbrook for generations.

Learning something new feels different when someone is there to encourage you along the way.

Throughout camp, our volunteer staff teach skills, answer questions, celebrate progress, and help campers keep going when something feels difficult.

Those interactions are part of Cedarbrook’s commitment to Skill-Building and Individual Development helping campers discover their God-given abilities while growing in confidence, courage, and perseverance.
