A special thank you to our first responder neighbors for coming together this evening to provide coverage and support for the River Valley High School football game.

We appreciate the teamwork and dedication of:

🇺🇸 Rio Grande Fire Department – Ladder 49
🇺🇸 Vinton Fire Department – Brush 75
🇺🇸 Gallia County EMS
🇺🇸 Gallia County Sheriff’s Office
🇺🇸 Ohio State Highway Patrol

Tonight was also about something much bigger than football.

We will always remember September 11, 2001. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

Thank you to River Valley High School and Nelsonville-York High School for taking the time tonight to recognize and honor the lives lost on 9/11, as well as the first responders, military members, and others in attendance who continue to serve their communities and our country.

It was an honor to stand together as neighboring departments, agencies, schools, and communities while remembering those we lost and honoring those who serve.

United we stand. We will never forget. 🇺🇸🚒🚑🚓

At approximately 03:30 hours yesterday morning, our department was dispatched to a large commercial structure fire with heavy flames showing. Upon arrival of the first-due engine, crews encountered significant fire conditions, with flames visible through the roof of the structure. Due to the size and intensity of the incident, it quickly became apparent that additional resources from neighboring departments would be necessary.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the following departments and agencies for their rapid response, apparatus, manpower, and support during this incident:

• Bloomfield Fire Department
• Gallipolis Fire Department
• Harrison Township Fire Department
• Pt. Pleasant Fire Department
• Rio Grande Fire Department
• Vinton Fire Department
• Gallia County EMS
• Gallia County EMA
• Gallia County Sheriff’s Office

We would also like to specifically thank the Gallia County Dispatch Center for your outstanding support throughout this large-scale incident. Managing an event of this complexity is no easy task, and your professionalism, communication, and coordination played a critical role during the operation.

In total, 23 fire apparatus and 70 personnel operated on scene throughout the incident, with some firefighters remaining committed for more than 16 hours. Incidents of this magnitude cannot be managed alone, and we are incredibly thankful for the professionalism, dedication, and teamwork displayed by every department and agency involved.

Lastly, we want to thank the countless community members and local businesses who provided food, drinks, encouragement, and support to crews throughout the incident including Elizabeth Keeton, Matt and Amy Toler, and Field of Hope. We are fortunate to serve such an outstanding and supportive community, and your generosity means more to us than words can adequately express.

From all of us — thank you.

Springfield Township Fire had a very busy night. We don’t recap all of our run reports, but last night was one worth sharing.
We started around 0200 with a structure fire and a car fire. Around 0445, we were dispatched to yet another fully involved structure fire. Finally, at 0730, we were sent to a structure fire that was spreading to an adjacent dwelling.
Most of us went through the night with little to no sleep—some even heading straight to work afterward. The level of dedication shown is sometimes overwhelming to witness.
By the third call, we were running short on both steam and manpower, as about half of our members had to leave for work. At that point, we requested mutual aid. A huge thank you to D7 Vinton Fire for responding and jumping right into action—the help could not have come at a better time.
We’d also like to extend our gratitude to D4 Rio Fire, who had units on standby and ready to roll if additional support was needed.
Membership is down across most volunteer departments, and this is exactly the kind of dedication and cooperation it will take for all of us to weather the shortage.

Restricted burning hours are now in effect, marking a familiar annual occurrence. Be aware that despite the wet ground, dry leaves and foliage from winter are abundant and can rapidly dry with minimal wind, posing a significant fire risk. Check local regulations and consult your local Fire Department for guidance.
