Volunteer Opportunities: We Need You!

As we head into September, the Biddeford Food Pantry is looking for volunteers to help us keep our shelves stocked, our operations running smoothly, and food moving to the families who need it. There are several ways to get involved, with opportunities for different schedules, skills, and interests!

📦 PANTRY STOCKING

Help us get ready for our weekly distribution by unloading food deliveries and stocking and organizing the pantry.

📅 Fridays, Saturdays & Mondays
🕣 8:30–10:00 AM

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working behind the scenes and staying active. Your help ensures our pantry is ready to serve our neighbors each week!

💻 OFFICE, ADMINISTRATIVE & VOLUNTEER SUPPORT

We're also looking for volunteers who can lend their skills to the administrative side of the pantry.

We're looking for help with:

📝 Food ordering and reporting
✍️ Grant writing and research
💌 Donor acknowledgement letters
🙋 Volunteer coordination: helping recruit, schedule, communicate with, and organize our amazing team of pantry volunteers
📊 Other administrative projects

Schedules are flexible, and some work can be completed remotely. If you have office, writing, fundraising, nonprofit, organizational, or people-management skills, we'd love to put them to work for our community!

The Volunteer Coordinator role would be especially valuable for someone who enjoys working with people, staying organized, and helping make sure we have the volunteers we need to keep the pantry running smoothly.

🚐 FOOD DONATION DRIVERS

We need reliable volunteer drivers to help pick up food donations from our community partners and bring them back to the pantry.

📅 Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays & Mondays
🕖 Starting at 7:00 AM
⏰ Approximately 1½–2 hours

Requirements:
✔️ Must be 18 or older
✔️ Valid driver's license
✔️ Comfortable driving our pantry van and box truck
✔️ No CDL required

This is a vital volunteer role that helps keep our shelves stocked and ensures we have food available for our neighbors experiencing food insecurity.

We'd love to find one volunteer who can cover all four driver days each week, but if you can't commit to all four, we'd still love to hear from you if you can take on a regular weekly shift.

🥫 Food security matters.

A recent NEWS CENTER Maine story highlights contingency funding included in Maine’s supplemental budget that could help provide roughly one month of SNAP benefits if federal funding is disrupted.

For the thousands of Mainers who rely on SNAP, that kind of support can make a meaningful difference in keeping food on the table.

At Biddeford Food Pantry, we know that access to nutritious food is essential to the strength and well-being of our community. We’re grateful for efforts that help protect food security, and we’ll continue to be here for our neighbors whenever they need us.

We're Looking for August Volunteers!

Looking for a meaningful way to give back to your community? Join our amazing team of volunteers at the Biddeford Food Pantry this August!

Every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., volunteers help make it possible for hundreds of local families to access nutritious food in a welcoming environment.

There are many ways to help during our 3-hour shifts, including:
🥕 Packing bags and boxes of food for our clients
📋 Assisting with client check-in
📦 Stocking shelves and organizing pantry supplies
🤝 Working alongside a friendly, dedicated team making a real difference

🌼 We also have a special outdoor project! We're looking for a few volunteers to help us build a beautiful new garden bed at the pantry. We already have all the materials-including the landscaping bricks-we just need a few helping hands to donate their time and labor to bring it to life. It's a great opportunity for anyone who enjoys working outdoors and wants to help make our pantry even more welcoming for our clients and volunteers.

Whether you can volunteer once a week, once a month, help with the garden project, or several days each week, we'd love to hear from you! Volunteering is flexible, rewarding, and a wonderful way to support your neighbors.

🚨 URGENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – PICKUP DRIVERS 🚨

Help Us Restore a Community Landmark 🌸

One of the first things clients see when they arrive at the Biddeford Food Pantry is our beautiful flower box. For many years, it has helped create a warm and welcoming entrance for everyone who visits.

Unfortunately, after years of exposure to Maine weather, the flower box has deteriorated significantly. The wooden walls have rotted and the structure now needs to be removed and rebuilt.

The total cost of this project is $2,450, and we are seeking community support to help cover the expense. Any donation, big or small, will help us restore this welcoming feature and continue keeping our neighborhood beautiful. The money we get we primarily use for food and do not have extra money set aside for this.

School is out for the summer, and for many families that means stretching the grocery budget even further.

If you need a little extra help putting food on the table, the Biddeford Food Pantry is here for you. Our shelves are stocked, our volunteers are ready, and everyone is welcome.

Our fiscal year wrapped up May 31 2026, so we took a moment to tally the pounds of food we've distributed and the number of distributions of food we've served.

This year our family visits have increased 15% year over year up to 19,646. We distributed 627,466lbs of food this year.

We could not be more grateful to our team of volunteers who tirelessly work to collect food donations, unload heavy pallets, stock our shelves, and carefully fill our weekly distribution bags and boxes for our clients each week.

We could not have done this without our donor community. Thank you for stepping up this year to support increases in food sourcing costs and unexpected repairs to our delivery truck.

Thank you so much for all of your support. We could not make this kind of impact without this generous community.
