Our summer camp finished up last week- 8 weeks packed with adventure, laughter, and fun memories! August was a busy one- from Raptor Falls to the USM Planetarium, Seacoast Science Museum, Biddeford Farmers Market, archery with Ranger Tom, a fun day at the mall — plus time in the garden, cooking classes, and National Night Out!
We capped it off with the 3rd Annual Apex Olympics, hosted by Charles and Eric🏅 Thanks for an amazing summer, campers! See ya next year 😎

That’s a wrap on our 2026 Youth Conservation Corps!

This 8 week program offers high school aged youth paid, hands-on experience in conservation- teaching hard work and a love for the outdoors. Last month including projects such as building trellises, a new walking and biking trail at Apex, a firewood holder, a compost bin, invasive species removal, and even a bench crafted from a downed Poplar tree.

We wrapped up our last week of the season with three incredible partner adventures:
-Trail work with Maine Coast Heritage Trust at the new Biddeford Forest
-Invasive species removal and island beautification with Maine Island Trail Association on Little Chebeague Island
-A visit to Goat Island in Cape Porpoise thanks to Kennebunkport Conservation Trust including a tour of the lighthouse, tidepool exploration, and swimming to celebrate a season of fun!
Thank you to all of our incredible partners and volunteers for making this summer so successful and full of hard work, positive connections, and experiential learning. We’re so grateful to our partner Ranger Tom at Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge, we couldn’t do this without you! And thank you to our incredible crew of 5 for a job well done!

Another unforgettable adventure with Maine Huts & Trails at Stratton Brook Hut! 🏔️ Our days were packed with mountain biking, hiking, cooking, board games, plant identification, and fun! This marks our fourth trip with Maine Huts & Trails, and our gratitude for this partnership only grows. Thanks to them, our Apex youth get to experience the wild beauty of Maine in places they might never otherwise see. The Carrabassett Valley never stops inspiring us. Thank you Maine Huts!

It’s hard to believe that our Youth Conservation Corps crew is halfway done with the season! We’ve been tackling projects like invasive species removal, trail building, helping out at the UNE American Chestnut Grove, raising monarch butterflies, and building bog bridges at Scarborough Land Trust. We’re learning about conservation and land management, and enjoying spending our time outside and in nature!
