Black Owned Maine Black Owned Maine is a nonprofit focused on economic empowerment for Black and Brown people in Maine.

Our work focuses on our three pillars: Antiracist economics, Grassroots Educations, and the Hearth Mentality. We offer the following programs:

Marketing and advertising support, including a directory of Black businesses
A mutual aid program for individuals and families
A hair braiding academy (currently not enrolling new students)

Some clarity for those inquiring.

Our community is under attack!

We have made the difficult decision to disable our website and directory for the safety of our community. We wish there were another way but proper security takes time and money that we frankly do not have. This by NO means says that our work is ending or even pausing, it just means that the directory portion of our work is shifting.

If you have ever used our business directory, received business advising, attended our networking events, or just generally wish for a more equitable Maine, please consider donating to our mission.

It is with a very heavy heart that we have taken down our directory and thus our website. Unfortunately the two coexist so much that one cannot exist without the other. We are unsure when or if the directory will go live again but we are working to develop a more secure point of entry so our community is not put on blast anymore than it currently is.

Thank you for your understanding and for all the individuals, mutual aid groups, and nonprofits working around the clock to protect our communities.
