Hitting Pause on Miranda’s Hearth
The past six months have been a time of turbulence, disruption, new connections, and course changes. Together, we have learned about the fragility of our social infrastructures and the sacrifices that so many are willing to make to keep each other safe. It has been a moment to see the true value of creativity, a moment when being able to create new ways of living, connecting, and being is not frivolous but deeply necessary.
Miranda’s Hearth began seven years ago in order to promote just that kind of creativity. A way of thinking that empowers each of us to view ourselves, our lives, and our communities as works of art that are created and re-created through our personal and communal efforts. We have strived to build a community through creativity that is approachable, affordable, and accessible to all, breaking down narratives about who gets to make things.
After five months of planning and pivoting and planning again, we have made the difficult decision to hit pause on Miranda’s Hearth. Our strength and purpose lies in direct person-to-person connections through creativity. While there are many inspiring organizations making Herculean efforts to connect communities online, we are pausing in order to preserve our limited resources for a time when we can once again sit around the table and make things together.
We want to express deep gratitude for everyone who has connected with us virtually this year, showed up in person for the past seven years, and followed our story and efforts. Over 26,000 people have visited the Hearth since our first event in July 2013. Together, we have made something beautiful. We hope that each of you can take a spark from this fire and keep the creativity burning in your own lives as we work together to create a better, more caring, more creative world.
Warmly,
Miranda Aisling, Executive Director
