It’s TOMORROW!

The ships are ready. The muskets are ready. The cannons are ready. And tomorrow morning, our reenactors will bring October 10, 1775 back to Beverly’s waterfront.
Colonial militia will take their places along the shore, sailors will take to the water aboard the Hannah and Nautilus, and Beverly townspeople will find themselves caught in the middle as the Battle of Beverly unfolds around Dane Street Beach.
After months of planning and preparation, we’re finally ready to bring this story to life. Come experience it for yourself tomorrow morning!

Only two days until the Battle of the Hannah & Nautilus!

On October 10, 1775, HMS Nautilus opened fire on Beverly, sending cannonballs toward the shoreline and into town. Among the Beverly residents caught in the middle of it all was Elizabeth Lovett.

As the battle unfolded, Lovett was urged to leave her home, but she refused because she had bread baking in the oven. When she finally did leave, she stopped and stood on a wall, and that was when a British cannonball came crashing down on the hill beside her.

This Saturday, 251 years later, come experience the battle that brought the Revolution quite literally into the backyards, homes, and everyday lives of Beverly residents like Elizabeth Lovett.

Imagine standing on the shores of Beverly Harbor 251 years ago, watching history unfold before your eyes.

⚓️ On October 10, 1775, the Hannah and HMS Nautilus clashed in a Revolutionary War battle that would become part of Beverly’s remarkable history. Generations have passed, but the stories of our city continue to shape who we are.

We’re one week away from the Battle of the Hannah & Nautilus, and 251 years ago, Thomas Stephens was having a very bad day.

On October 10, 1775, HMS Nautilus opened fire on Beverly from about half a mile offshore. Cannonballs struck around the town, including one that blasted through Stephens’s carriage house and destroyed his carriage.

Stephens’s response?

The 38-year-old ran down to the shore with his musket and started firing back at the British warship.
