New England Open Water Swimming Association

New England Open Water Swimming Association NEMSA was formed to ensure these opportunities will be here for the future as defined in our mission.

If you love to swim in New England's open water, whether river, pond, lake, harbor, bay, sound, or ocean, then your membership will not only help you connect with like minded individuals, it will help promote awareness of the need for continued vigilance over the quality of our most precious natural resource.

We are so pleased to promote an event with swimmer and author Lynne Cox. Cary Memorial Library in Lexington will be hosting Lynne for a virtual visit on Tuesday, Jan 26th at 7pm. Whether or not you have known of Lynne and read her books, you are in for a tremendous treat. Lynne is one of the kindhearted, warm, strong, and inspirational people you will ever meet. Here is a bit more about her:

Lynne is a best-selling author of six non-fiction works. Her first book, "Swimming to Antarctica", chronicles her early career including her record-setting 2-kilometer swim to the shores of Antarctica. Her award-winning "Grayson" shares the story of Lynne’s encounter with a lost baby whale off the coast of California. Lynne’s most-recent book, "Swimming in the Sink", published in 2017, describes Lynne’s battle with a life-threatening illness and her path back to the water, happiness, and love. Lynne’s 7th non-fiction book – sharing more stories in the water – will be published sometime in 2021!

Just use the code neopenwater for 25% off of purchases on blueseventy.com.

It still may be a bit too cold out there for any open water swimming, if you haven't been acclimated already (like those crazy ice swimmers- yes, I wish I had the guts). Be careful out there, on land and sea.

Contributed by Guy Davis, Jennifer Downing, Bob Fernald, & Elaine Howley Happy spring, and we hope you and your families are safe and well. In these disrupted times, our greatest responsibility is to do what we must to minimize the consequences of this public health crisis for the community
