⭐️ Appalachian Craftsmanship Artist Spotlight: Kevin Boyle!

Kevin is a potter in Randolph County, WV. He has been creating and teaching pottery since 1993. Stoneware is his preferred clay and he creates his own glazes using wood ash from wood that he has collected from the forest that surrounds his home. Kevin’s work is inspired by nature and the human form. Tall, elegant vases and functional pottery are created with daily use in mind. When he’s creating bowls, mugs, and other functional pottery, he hopes that his work brings joy to the user’s daily activities.
The pitcher and wash bowl in this display represent items used in this area for centuries. Kevin thanks you for and appreciates your interest in, and support of, the Appalachian arts.

See work by Kevin and all of the amazing artists at the opening reception this Saturday (8/29)! Rotating Exhibit Room. 3-5 PM. Live on the Lawn with Fair Play right after at 5:30.

🎵meet another featured artist from our new exhibit, Appalachian Craftsmanship, opening this Saturday. Bob Smakula!

Bob Smakula is a renowned luthier who has spent most of his life building, repairing, and playing stringed instruments. His affinity for repairing old instruments so that modern players can enjoy them goes way back. He started building instruments from kits as a youth and eventually started his own company, Smakula Fretted Instruments, in Randolph County, WV. In addition to operating his shop, he taught instrument repair at the Augusta Heritage Center for over 25 years and has won numerous awards for fiddle and banjo playing. Bob is passing down a legacy of vintage instrument repair and the traditional music that goes with it. He is enjoying his retirement by making and repairing only what he wants to.

Stop by and see the beautiful fretless banjo Bob made for us! Saturday, August 29 from 3-5 PM - and live music to follow 🎵
