Two weeks to tell you all about this week. First up was Saturday November 5. Team 1 was working and this is the week Gary and Karen generously donate a box lunch from Jersey Mike's. Naturally they also served soup from our friends at Depot Diner. There was a garden salad and fresh fruit cup as well. All forty meals were given out to very grateful guests. Thank you Gail Collen, Lauren and Deb {as well as Jeremy) for all your hard work.
This past week was Team 2. A lot of the people who normally work with Liz were unavailable so we are so thankful Gail stepped in to help. Deb McHugh and Jeremy were there as well. It was a rather complicated lunch so John and I did some prep work Friday night to help them out. We breaded the pork chops ahead of time, made apple crisp and put together a large pan of assorted veggies for roasting. The meal was shake and bake pork chops, mashed potatoes roasted veggies, soup from Depot Diner, dinner roll and apple crisp with vanilla ice cream for dessert. The guests were thrilled and the Team got tons of compliments. There was also cups of granola and sliced babka for the guests to enjoy prior to the meal. Thank you to everyone that helped out on such a beautiful day in November. Next week is the church fair and the guests will be getting vouchers to enjoy whatever they want from the fair kitchen. Till next week... Eileen & John

Really great lunch this past Saturday. John and I were working the kitchen assisted by Chris, Jeremy and Marty. We were so grateful for their help as we were pretty busy. This week we served barbecue chicken, roasted potatoes, roasted veggies, hot bread from our friends at Bonnie Breads, and lentil soup from our friends at Depot Diner. The guests really enjoyed the meal and were very appreciative. For dessert there were cookies as well as assorted Halloween treats. Liz, myself and an anonymous diner brought in bags of candy for our guests as a special treat for Halloween. This group loves candy and it was a big hit. I am bringing in my leftover trick or treat candy for the lunch program to use and if you want to get the calories out of your house we will definitely put it to a good use. Also a shout out to Buck Schupp who painted the green cart that we use to death. It looks fantastic!! Again a thank you to Chris, Marty and of course Jeremy who were not scheduled this week, but jumped in to assist us. Happy Halloween..till next week.. Eileen & John

John and I worked the lunch this past week. Working along side of us was Chris, Jeremy, Bryce, Madeline and Sawyer. We had a really hearty meal for a crisp Autumn day. We had a pasta cheese bake, hot Italian bread, chef salad, Depot diner's chicken lemon soup, fresh fruit cup and cheesecake. There were assorted beverages as well as hot coffee to complete the meal. We had26 diners eat in and 12 utilize the "to go " option. Everyone seemed pleased with the meal and everything went smoothly. With such a great crew cleanup was a breeze and we finished in record time. All food was handed out to grateful guests. We will also be working next Saturday as well and if anyone would like to drop off a bag of Halloween candy that we can distribute to our guests it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you again to our volunteers for all their hard work. I love this weather, it is my favorite time of year. I only wish the Fall was several months instead of a few weeks. Enjoy the vibrant colors and the beautiful weather. Till next week... Eileen & John

This past Saturday was actually Team 4. we swapped with them as many of the workers are looking forward to attending the upcoming woman's retreat. Terry and Ed were in on Friday making their fabulous shepherd's pie. On Saturday Cindy, Pam, Karen, Jeremy, and Marty were hard at work reheating the pie as well as creating a garden salad and fresh fruit salad. They also steamed carrots and warmed the chicken barley soup donated by Depot Diner. This week 18 people chose the dine in option and 10 opted for to go. The dessert this week was cheese cake topped with fresh strawberries (huge hit!!). Thank you Team 4 for all your hard work. Thank you also to Calvary Christian Church, who generously donated the produce for salads. Have a great week> please remember we are still seeking Halloween candy for our guests. Thanking everyone in advance. Hope all the ladies have a great time on the retreat. Eileen & John

Two lunches to mention this week. The first is Team 2, with Liz, Tom, Deb Mallon, Deb McHugh, Janice and Jeremy. Liz and company whipped up an extra special meal of steak, gravy, rice, broccoli and cauliflower, Asian noodle salad, rolls Depot Diner chicken and rice soup, and homemade pumpkin cake with maple frosting. This week only 11 guests dined in while the rest chose the to go option. 34 meals were handed out in total, Team 2 gave the rest of the food to our neighbors at the fire house. Thank you so much Team 2 for putting on such a fabulous meal. I also want to thank the Bissell family who reached out to us on Monday to see if we could use two really large pizzas for Monday night supper. We contacted the group serving that night (First Parish) and they were very grateful to have them, Thank you Bissell for your generosity and thoughtfulness. As you all know the meal numbers are all over the place(no one makes reservations) and we are so grateful are teams are able to adjust at a moments notice. As Halloween is approaching if anyone would like to donate a bag of candy so we can make treat bags for our guests we would truly appreciate it. Thanking you in advance.. Eileen & John

Chris, Marty, Jeremy, John and I were up this week for Saturday lunch. What was so great was that with cooler temps it was actually quite nice in the kitchen. We decided it was time for pasta. We had roasted tomatoes and peppers in the past and froze them. We defrosted these and made a great homemade sauce. We had a tray of lasagna, chicken ziti and broccoli, and peppers sausage and onions we put to use as well. The patrons had a lot of choices and they loved it. Along with all the pasta we had a huge chef salad, homemade bread from Bonnie Breads. lentil soup from Depot Diner (my personal favorite), fresh fruit cup, clementine's, apple crisp with vanilla ice cream and assorted beverages. There was quite the crowd with at least 32 opting for indoor dining and 16 to go meals. All food was given away. We cannot thank Marty and Chris enough for all their hard work. Our guests were very grateful and we got a lot of compliments on the meal. Thank you also to our friends at Calvary Christian church who donated the produce and meat for the chef salad and the fruit for the fresh fruit cup. Have a great week.. Eileen & John

I am so behind in posting. we had some medical issues that needed to be addressed so again my apologies. August 27 Team 4 was working hard in the kitchen. Volunteers were Cindy, Pam Karren, Deb, Jeremy and Terri. Terri and Ed came in earlier in the week and made a fantastic pasta salad. This week due to a generous donation from our friends at Calvary Christian Church we were making turkey BLT rollups. We have served these in the past and they are a huge hit. There was fresh fruit salad, assorted drinks, chips, soup from our friends at Depot Diner, and a cake frosted with whipped cream that had fresh strawberries for the topping. We have seen a huge increase in the numbers and have been preparing forty meals. All were distributed. Even Monday night supper gets at least 35 diners. Thank you Team 4 for doing such a great job, and a special thanks to my husband who went in to teach the team how to do a rollup. (he could get a job at Super Sub with his sandwich skills.)
😀😀😀

Quite the lunch this past Saturday. I had made two large mac and cheeses in the past and had frozen them. We defrosted these, and browned some beef, sautéed peppers, added additional cheese and voila, our version of beefaroni. We put this together Friday evening. We knew in advance that Jeremy, Bryce and the girls were not available, but we had John, myself, Chris and Michele for a crew. I got called in to work Saturday morning which really left John shot handed. Luckily he texted Deb Melon who was only too happy to help out. We had another huge donation from our friends at Calvary Christian Church so there was a lot to do. Fruit was chopped for fresh fruit cups which guests could enjoy prior to the meal. There was also corn muffins, coffee, juice and assorted beverages. There was fresh produce for a salad to go with the beefaroni along with roasted veggies, and warm bread from our friends at Bonnie Breads. Guests also enjoyed lentil soup from Depot Diner. I had made a white sheet cake prior and Deb frosted this with cool whip. On serving fresh juiced strawberries were ladled on top which really made it special. Our version of strawberry shortcake, which was very well received. Thank you to everyone who worked and made this meal so special. Also a really big shout out to Deb Melon who jumped in at the last minute. We cannot thank her enough for all her hard work. Till next week.. Eileen & John
