Contact your Senator to vote YES on Senate Bill 281. Senate Bill 281 would require greater transparency in dental network leasing arrangements. SB 281 will help dentists better understand the dental networks they participate with and, in turn, allow dental offices to spend more time providing care for patients.

Dental network leasing is a practice where dental benefit companies lease their networks to 3rd parties, usually other dental plans. When this occurs, a dentist can end up being in-network with several different dental networks, even though they only signed a participation agreement with one. Navigating these complex issues can take several hours of staff time for every claim that is processed incorrectly. From the patient perspective, this can cause frustration with their dentist’s staff and negatively impact the provider-patient relationship.

Voting YES on this bill will make Michigan the 28th state to enact network leasing transparency legislation and will significantly help improve the administration of benefits and delivery of dental care in Michigan.
