It was 103° in LA today, and the extreme heat continues into next week. Some of our volunterrs spent part of the afternoon handing out frozen water bottles, but even with extreme precaution, still got light headed and had to head back home. It is DANGEROUS out there.

If you have freezer room freeze some bottles and hand them out! You could be saving a life.

🚨Update🚨:

The bad: Ana's rent is due in two days.

The good: We have helped her find a low cost surgery clinic that can fix Kiara's jaw so she can eat! She's been surviving off of little bites of mushed up wet food. We are 1/4th of our way to our goal to cover rent and surgery!

A large portion of people living in their cars and tents are also workers. In fact, the vast majority of people have jobs the day they become homeless. Employment is not an automatic protection against ending up on the streets. We know so many hard working people living in cars and showering in gyms while having full time jobs. This labor day we urge everyone to fight for a world where workers have the dignity of being paid enough to have a place to live.

A rainy day reminder that people do indeed die of the cold in LA.

Cold rain, cold concrete, wet clothes, and wet blankets lead to hypothermia even when the outside temperature isn't super low. Elderly people, babies, and people with disabilities living on the street are particularly vulnerable to the cold.

We are due for a really strong rainy season this year and would love to encourage you to pitch in to help keep your neighbors alive.

Before rain we try to hand out plastic tarp and after the rain we give people fresh socks and laundry kits with coins to dry off at laundromats. You can also check those closets! A dry blanket, an umbrella, or dry clothes all help!

September is National Su***de Prevention month.

Su***de prevention means building a society that prioritizes our health and wellbeing over profits.

This loss of life due to the stress of skyrocketing rents, choosing between basic needs and meals, and not having access to doctors, rehab, therapy, and medicine is unconscionable.

Meeting everyone's basic needs is possible, and it is su***de prevention.

Think about how hard it is for you to move into a place: 750+ credit, 3x the rent income, no pets, positive references, ...

Think about how hard it is for you to move into a place: 750+ credit, 3x the rent income, no pets, positive references, a giant deposit in hand, background checks. Then you have to be ready for giant rent increases even when your wages don't go up at all.

Imagine how hard those things are to prepare when you're living on the streets and the government is throwing away everything you own weekly. It's almost impossible.

It has never been harder to keep a roof over your head but hateful politicians will really sit here and tell you all of this has nothing to do with why a record amount of people are living on the streets.

The data is clear: No matter how many times and how many millions they spend on throwing away those tents, it is never getting anyone closer to getting off the street.
