World Elephant Day

World Elephant Day is deeply saddened by the passing of Sir Iain Douglas-Hamilton, a visionary whose impact on elephant conservation has been felt around the world. He devoted his entire life to the protection of elephants. Beginning in 1965, he became a pilot to record elephant's migratory paths, and continuing through his founding of Save the Elephants in 1993, his work became a pillar of modern conservation.

We honour his extraordinary legacy and the profound influence he had on conservation efforts everywhere. Our condolences go out to his family, friends, and colleagues who were touched by his brilliance, generosity, and unwavering commitment to elephants.

We are deeply saddened by the news that Dr. Jane Goodall has passed. She was a pioneer in wildlife conservation and led an astonishing life dedicated to the protection of our natural places and creatures.

Let us honour her memory by taking up her torch and continuing the work of protecting animals and their ecosystems; safeguarding them for future generations.

The Jane Goodall Institute of Canada has learned this morning, Wednesday, October 1st, 2025, that Dr. Jane Goodall DBE, UN Messenger of Peace and Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute, has passed away due to natural causes.

She was in California as part of her speaking tour in the United States.

Dr. Goodall's discoveries as an ethologist revolutionized science and she was a tireless advocate for the protection and restoration of our natural world.

Every August 12, people around the globe rally for elephants. With so much happening in the world, it’s easy to wonder: “Why should I care about elephants?”

Because they’re disappearing fast — and they are so much more than just animals. They need us!

They are:
