I remember a few years ago, it was an early evening when I was driving home and looking forward to being in my living room to enjoy the rain at my place while drinking a nice cup of hot tea. As I was imagining this in my head, I suddenly noticed a few homeless people camping under the bridge, trying to make a roof out of cardboard so they can sleep under it. By witnessing this scene, I got emotional, and I thought to myself “why would they prefer to sleep on the streets rather than going to shelters and use their facilities?” I have also witnessed some of my friends who are single mothers and the challenges they have faced to put their children through school and provide them with hot meals, and a roof over their heads. They are constantly sacrificing and dedicating their lives, happiness, and yet they still must pay a big chunk of their income for rent. I have always admired their hard work and always thought to myself that their children are our future and that they should be living comfortable lives with access to everything without struggling to pay for their rent or livelihood. By witnessing all these things almost every day of my life, I came up with the decision to establish the Parviz Pargari International Foundation by using my professional work and start designing, building and provide housing for these wonderful individuals. Through my foundation, with the help of my fellow board members, architects, engineers, city halls in different cities, colleagues, students, and most importantly from all the amazing people who are able to donate and help us in this magnificent mission and we will be able to aid many people with their housing situation. My dream is to see a day where not one person is living on the street anymore or is struggling to keep a roof over their head.
