Cortney Gives BAK funds congenital heart defect research all around the country. We focus on research pertaining to single ventricle anatomy/Fontan physiology/Fontan Associated Liver Disease (FALD). Visit our website to donate, to read more about my personal story, and to check out the research we have funded. We are currently meeting with researchers and doctors to choose which research we will fund in 2025. Is there any research you would like to see funded? Share below in the comments! Improving the lives of heart warriors has always been a priority and a true dream of mine. Thank you for helping to make it all happen!

My family and I, and the entire CHD community, appreciate your support more than you can ever imagine. Thank you from the bottom of my half-a-heart!! 🫶🏼

Smiling big! The Cortney Gives BAK Foundation is very excited to announce the funding of two more incredible research projects!!

❤️ In 2023, we funded Dr. Mark Rodefeld’s Implantable Fontan Pump for $150,000.00!

❤️ In 2024, in partnership with The Children’s Heart Foundation (), we are helping to fund Dr. Juliet Emamaullee’s Predictive Biomarkers to Inform Transplant Candidacy in Fontan-Associated Liver Disease (FALD) for $100,000.00!

We could not do this without our donors!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! These research projects bring so much hope to so many people. Fontan families, how truly incredible is this?!? ❤️❤️

If would like to donate to research similar to these two projects listed above, please visit www.cortneygivesbak.com today (link in bio)! Please reach out if you would like your own webpage to collect donations from family and friends. The Cortney Gives BAK Foundation supports research pertaining to Fontan/single ventricle anatomy and Fontan Associated Liver Disease (FALD).

Today is Giving Tuesday!!! The Cortney Gives BAK Foundation helps fund single ventricle/Fontan/Fontan Associated Liver Disease research all over the country!! Donate today at www.cortneygivesbak.com (link in bio)!

Today our foundation is raising funds for Dr. Rodefeld’s Fontan Blood Pump!! Dr. Rodefeld is making great progress with the Fontan pump, and he is ready for us to help him fund the next phase in his research! Dr. Rodefeld himsef explains how your generous contribution to Cortney Gives BAK will help…

“The implantable Fontan pump will add a subpulmonary power source in a Fontan circulation and, for the first time ever, restore normal 2-ventricle health in a way that is safe and durable. The Cortney Gives BAK Foundation funds will be used to develop the electronic drive system that will be needed to operate the device. This includes wiring, electronic controls (software, firmware, hardware), and power source. These funds will allow us to develop the foundation for the clinical system drive. In turn, this will help with FDA approval for early feasibility studies in humans and facilitate getting the technology to patients who need it.”

Let’s do this!! Every dollar counts! Thank you so so much!!!! ❤️🤍🖤

VERY exciting news!!! Together, we have the opportunity to help fund the next stage of research for Dr. Rodefeld’s implantable Fontan pump!! Our goal is $150,000!! Donate to The Cortney Gives BAK Foundation (www.cortneygivesbak.com) today! ❤️🤍🖤

With your generosity, Dr. Rodefeld will be able to develop the electronic components (software, firmware, hardware) that will comprise the electronic drive and control system for the implantable Fontan pump. How incredibly amazing is that?! We have been SO hopeful about this Fontan pump for years, it is wonderful to see that Dr. Rodefeld is continuing to make great progress with this research. Let’s help him, help us!! This is a special one. We are very thankful to Dr. Rodefeld for dedicating an extensive amount of time and hard work on this Fontan pump. It is truly life changing research that brings us so much hope for the future of single ventricle patients everywhere!!

We are very excited to give you an update on the research project we funded through the University of Michigan/C. S. Mott Children’s Hospital! The HEART Club: Home Exercise And Resiliency Training for Fontan circulation is up and running 🏃‍♀️!!…Pun intended 😂

The HEART club is a 6 month prescription home exercise program personally designed for each research study participant. This study will evaluate the impact of a telemedicine-based structured home exercise program on frailty and exercise capacity in individuals with Fontan heart physiology, demonstrate that a telemedicine exercise program reduces socioeconomic and geographic barriers to access exercise training, and to explore the impact of a structured exercise program on markers of Fontan-associated liver disease. If this is successful, it could truly change the lives of all patients living with congenital heart defects. The hope is to expand this program to heart centers all around the country!

We have heard that the HEART Club is already off to a great start! 85 patients have been screened and meet the criteria for participation, and 7 patients have formally consented. The best part is that the patients are so appreciative to have a program like this that can teach them, motivate them, guide them, and help them to live longer, healthier lives! We are hopeful that this program will be truly life-changing!!

Are you participating in HEART Club?!
Cortney will be a participant in the study, and she is really looking forward to this Friday! Cortney will be going to Mott Children’s Hospital for her first Heart Club appointment - the Intake Testing Visit. It is the most excited she has ever been for a cardiology appointment, liver testing, blood draw and exercise test 😅 Follow to see updates of her Heart Club experience over the next six months.

Thank you SO much to everyone who has donated to The Cortney Gives BAK Foundation! As you can see, you are making a huge difference in the lives of CHD patients everywhere. Please visit cortneygivesbak.com (or click the donate button on this post) to donate today! ❤️

We are so excited to share the research project we chose to fund through The Children's Heart Foundation! Single Ventricle/Fontan patients and families, you will not want to miss this update!!

The research project we are funding is “A 3D Bioprinted Platform for Modeling and Treatment Planning of Hepatic Disorders in Fontan Patients” lead by Dr. Vahid Serpooshan, PhD, (Emory University). This is the first research project we have funded that focuses on Fontan Associated Liver Disease (FALD). The project aims to design a model of the liver that can be used in novel drug screens and for development of new surgical procedures. They will use 3D bioprinting to produce a model of the liver that can support liver cells and create a 3D model of liver tissue. As you may know, the Fontan circulation causes abnormal blood flow patterns which cause liver cirrhosis. This model will allow scientists to study how these changes affect disease development and progression, and ultimately create new treatment options. How incredible!!

If you would like to contribute to this research project, and other similar research projects, please donate at www.cortneygivesbak.com today! Thank you!! ❤️🤍🖤

This is incredible!! Last year we partnered with HeartWorks by giving $100,000 to their bioengineered cardiac tissue research project. Today we are so excited to share their newest update with you:

The FDA has granted permission for HeartWorks to proceed with their bioengineered cardiac tissue research. The next step is to treat patients. This is the first and only autologous stem cell trial for cardiac use in the world!! ❤️🙌🏼❤️

To our donors, thank you!! You played a huge part in making this happen!

To everyone at HeartWorks, we are so grateful for your entire team, and we are proud to be partners with you! Can’t wait to see what you do next!

On Giving Tuesday, we raised $5,625 + a matching gift of $5,625, which brings us to a total of $11,250!!! Thank you to everyone who donated, thank you to those who helped us surpass our goal right at the last second, and a huge thank you to Alisa and Jeff Ambrose (Cortney’s parents) who matched the day end total!!! Congenital heart defects (CHDs) are the most common birth defects in the US, yet CHD research is extremely underfunded. You are helping to change that, and we sincerely appreciate it. Thank you for an incredibly successful ❤️🤍🖤
