From the Commander
Here it is the first of June – and I realized I never got around to writing anything up for May. Oh well – what can I say……I could tell you that I was really, really busy all month – but you probably know better. I think I had a senior moment – or hour – or month!
I want to thank everybody who helped make our Memorial Day services in Bettsville and Burgoon successful –we had a good turnout in both Bettsville and Burgoon. We had the Old Fort band in Bettsville, along with the parade participants, Bettsville Fire Department, and the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office. The Executive Committee members made sure the sound system was set up, the rifles brought up, and the Chaplain not only said the prayers, but stood alongside me to make sure I didn’t fall over. Our Auxiliary helped out at the Post with the food, and also had their Chaplain place a wreath in both Bettsville and Burgoon. The Sons were also present helping out as needed. Thanks to all the parents who came out with their kids to see the painted rocks and stayed for hot dogs, chips, and treats. I think it was probably the most people we have had after Memorial Day services for a while – 120 hot dogs served along with all the other food. All in all – it was a good day and I hope all of you enjoyed the day.
As mentioned in the newsletter, last month we awarded several scholarships – remember that those are available in the coming years – every little bit helps those college students!
Thanks to the SAL for the new microwave and for the food prep station (and thanks to Janice for finding a cheaper price and saving the SAL some money!). We also bought a new refrigerator to store sauces and other food items since the cooler is pretty cramped.
Janice mentioned in her update about calling in take-out orders when the folks are out in the fields – an excellent idea that makes life easier for everybody concerned.
Our sidewalk replacement is still coming at some point – our contractor got behind because of the weather a while back. We may have to close a day to get the entryway pad done – we’ll let you know.
Our new ATM is in the entryway, which you will notice has been cleaned up, fixed up, and looks better than it has in a long time. Thanks to Susan and Janice for their work on it-
Don’t forget Flag Day coming up on June 14 -fly the flag with pride!
Our new flag disposal box is in and put together – it is really nice, and thanks to the Auxiliary for purchasing it for the Post. We just have to get a few things done before we mount it outside. In the meantime, if you have flags that need to be retired, just bring them to the canteen and we’ll take care of them.
Some of the things I mentioned above point out the fact that the Post, the Auxiliary, and the Sons are all working together to make Post 733 a better place for all of us – and our employees are also doing their part as well. Looking to the future, things are looking good!
