This page is based on a dream that no animal will suffer at the hands of humans. This is a small, family based sanctuary that will be a forever home for senior and special needs animals. There may be a rare adoption or foster opportunity but, in general, the animals that come to the LCR, will stay until they cross the bridge. They will have room to roam on the farm, lots of love and all the care they need. We are currently full on property. Please donate and help us help them!

We were informed today that our sweet Sante has passed. We rescued him from the most horrific kill pen in Louisiana. He was the most emaciated, sick, shut down horse we’d ever seen. We wouldn’t drink for 8 days and our amazing vet, Emily McDonald Dryden came and tubed water into him until he decided to fight again. He blossomed and became grumpy. We loved it because he gained his own free will and personality. He was adopted my the most amazing family, loved my them, and a little girl. He passed today at almost 30 and I feel so happy that he had a wonderful pasture filled with love and just got to be a horse. He was named by my father, Sante… cheers to health.

Funny story….our back door blew open in the middle of the night, which is nothing new. In the morning about 6 we discovered it and shut the door thinking nothing of it. I went to work as usual and Jay proceeded to work in his home office. Around 1pm our dogs started going NUTs in our guest room and Jay went in there to find them with a full grown possum! Good times. We just got back from the vet for rabies boosters and then gave Clara a bath. Never a dull moment!

When you rescue, loss is huge, but gains are also huge. We have had a lot of loss over the past few years. However, we take the behavioral issues, the blind, the aged, the ill, the neglected. The only way you can survive the loss is to know that the lives you saved had great quality, the best care, and unbounding love in the time we had them. Hug your animal rescuer today. Some days we’re not ok, but we’ll keep moving because there are more. We are slowly emptying the ocean of cruelty with a teaspoon but every life matters. We keep going.
