This past Saturday, at our monthly chapter meeting, we welcomed Colton Krial as our guest speaker. Colton is the Director of Foundation & Government Relations at Moravian University.

Colton and his colleagues are in the process of applying for a DAR Historic Preservation Grant. Part of this endeavor requires a sponsorship letter from the local DAR chapter (which is us!).

Last year, Bethlehem became the 26th World Heritage Site in the U.S., encompassing 10 acres near downtown North Bethlehem. Moravian University is interested in helping to maintain and preserve one of these sites, which is God’s Acre Cemetery. This would include the possibility of placing QR codes near the cemetery to offer a history of its occupants. Moravian University also plans to clean, preserve, and restore gravestones according to UNESCO standards. This undertaking will require the use of ground penetrating radar, among other tools.

Chapter members present at our meeting unanimously voted in favor of expressing our support of this project. We are proud to fully endorse the efforts of Moravian Univeristy in their endeavor to help preserve God’s Acre Cemetery.
