Progress continues at Johnston Mansion 🌿

A big thank you to the students and instructors from Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School who recently returned to the property to assist with ongoing work in the fountain area. Recent efforts included site preparation, form construction, and concrete placement.

Projects like this not only help improve the grounds, but also provide valuable opportunities for students to apply their classroom skills in a real-world setting.

Spring refresh at Johnston Mansion 🌿
Students from Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School spent time on site clearing the grounds, working along the main walkway and stone walls, and painting foundation access panels. They also continued the removal of the existing fountain, which had deteriorated beyond practical repair, with plans for a new fountain in its place.
Work continues to focus on maintaining the property while preparing areas of the site for next steps.
Many thanks to the students and instructors for their continued efforts at the mansion. Their work is greatly appreciated!

In response to recent inquiries, indoor tours are not being offered at this time as we address safety-related items and prepare for an upcoming inspection process ahead of needed repairs.

We appreciate the continued interest and will share updates as plans move forward, including plans for a future open house.

Hey! What’s going on with the orange flags on the lawn at the Mansion?

They’re marking spots for a perc test, where crews check how the soil drains as part of planning for a new septic system. It’s another step toward getting the Mansion ready for future use.

This work is connected to the Archie Project, a volunteer group supporting long term planning for the site. They are also exploring historic recognition through the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

We’d love your help. If you have any old photos, stories, or information about the Johnston family or the property, please send us a message through our page. Thank you!

Fall Clean Up Day at Johnston Mansion 🍂

Twenty students from the Bethlehem Area Vocational Technical School spent this morning volunteering at the mansion, raking, pruning, and clearing the grounds. Their efforts will help to maintain this remarkable 1923 landmark and its 55-acre park for all to enjoy.

During the visit, measurements were also taken for the upcoming reconstruction of the mansion’s historic fountain, a project that BAVTS students will help complete.

A big Thank You to these hardworking students and staff for lending their time and energy to keep this historic property looking beautiful!
