We stopped by Paranormal Pizza to deliver the first reimbursement check through BEDCO’s Business Improvement Grant (BIG) program, supported via the Main Street Matters program from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania!
This support helped Marc Kubushefski and the Paranormal Pizza team continue building out their new SouthSide Bethlehem space after their 2023 fire. From a homegrown Instagram idea to a beloved local pizza spot, Paranormal Pizza is a perfect example of the small businesses that make our community vibrant, unique, and worth supporting. 🍕👻

Congratulations to the 2025 Southside Bethlehem Keystone Innovation Zone (KIZ) Tax Credit Awardees: FLX Solutions, Inc., Zaffrus (Almas Food International), and With Meraki Co, companies leading in in the areas of robotics, rare spice sourcing and infusion, and women's health.

Last week, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania announced that these three companies received a combined total of more than $184,000 in tax credits generated within the Zone in 2025. Including these awards, the total tax credits granted to participating companies in the South Bethlehem KIZ since 2007 now approach $9.65 million.

BEDCO and City of Bethlehem were grateful to be in attendance last Friday for the ribbon-cutting of the new “Steel Rooted / Wild Blooms” mural that now adorns the side of Country Club Brewing, facing the South Bethlehem Greenway.

This is a vibrant new public mural celebrating local biodiversity and environmental stewardship, created through an innovative collaboration at Lehigh University - the result of a cross-disciplinary course uniting students from Earth and Environmental Sciences, Environmental Studies, and Art, Architecture and Design, under the leadership of Assistant Teaching Professor Deirdre Murphy.

By bringing together artists and scientists in equal measure, the initiative reflects a powerful model of collaboration where research, creativity, and community engagement intersect to address the environmental challenges of our time.

The mural showcases native flora and fauna significant to the region. Through vivid imagery, it highlights species such as the red fox, eastern mole, chimney swifts - the City’s official bird - as well as the endangered blue-spotted salamander and rusty-patched bumblebee. Native plants including pawpaw, coneflowers, and paper birch underscore the essential role of pollinator habitats, while a cultivated hops plant pays tribute to the site's brewing heritage.

The Bethlehem Economic Development Corporation (BEDCO) was proud to be in attendance for today's groundbreaking ceremony of the Tempo by Hilton Bethlehem, an exciting addition to Bethlehem's SouthSide Arts District (SSAD).

Tempo by Hilton is a contemporary lifestyle brand designed for modern business and leisure travelers and the Bethlehem location will bring a design-forward, wellness-oriented hospitality experience to the Lehigh Valley. The hotel will feature 141 guest rooms, a ground-level lobby with a restaurant and bar, meeting rooms and a rooftop bar overlooking the South Bethlehem Greenway. The seventh floor will house an expanded fitness center, with outdoor dining space facing Third Street.

This will be the first Tempo by Hilton built in Pennsylvania. The next nearest is in New York City. The hotel is scheduled to open in October 2027.
