Throwback Thursday to the week of the Jefferson Lehigh Valley Classic presented by Sodexo, when The First Tee Lehigh Valley & Berks helped transform our office into a mini golf course and professional golfer Bo Van Pelt swung by to meet some of the youth we serve!

We still reflect on this incredible night and how fortunate we are to have such amazing community partners that helped make it possible, including: Cassidy Gavaghan and HNS Sports Group for coordinating with the PGA Champions Tour and reaching out to Bo; First Tee – Lehigh Valley and Berks for setting up the mini golf experience that brought so many smiles to the youths’ faces; food and beverage sponsors Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, GIO Italian Grill, Chick-fil-A and Niagara Bottling, who generously donated food and drink for the event; and, of course, Bo Van Pelt for taking time out of his busy schedule to swing by and give our young people a once in a lifetime experience.

Maura E. Topper, Chair, Valley Youth House Board of Directors, and President and CEO, CrossAmerica Partners, LP has shared that Thomas R. Harrington has announced his retirement as Valley Youth House’s President and Executive Director as of May 31, 2027.

“It has been an honor to help guide this agency over the past eleven years, and I am deeply proud of the impact we’ve had in delivering our services to youth and families throughout Northeast, Southeast and Central Pennsylvania” says Harrington.

Our next Setting the Stage has been announced! 📢

On March 2, 2027, we’ll be hosting our next Setting the Stage at the Renaissance Hotel & PPL Center, where guests will be treated to a star-studded concert featuring Def Leppard, Goo Goo Dolls, and The Struts!

Did you know that it's DAF Day today?

A Donor-Advised Fund, or DAF, is an increasingly popular way to give back. You simply set up a dedicated account that’s invested in the market, from which you draw funds that are then given to your preferred charities and organizations at the time of your choice. Think of it as a philanthropic version of a 401K!

In celebration of DAF Day, we sat down with Michael J. Fischer, President & CEO, Client 1st Financial, and member of the Valley Youth House Board of Governors - Lehigh Valley, to discuss what he finds so appealing about this giving method and why he chose to support VYH through his own DAF:

"Donor-Advised Funds allow you to take advantage of the tax deductions today; buy you time to decide what charities mean the most to you; are easy to establish; and can allow you to make a meaningful impact in your community, not only today, but well into the future."

It is October, which means fall is officially here. Crisp air, cozy sweaters, and best of all, National Book Month! To celebrate, we are diving into the heart of our local community's reading world.

We're joined by Ali Finkbeiner, who has been leading the helm at the Hellertown Area Library for the past two years. She discusses the mental health benefits of reading, how books can equip youth with better coping mechanisms, and more.

We had an incredible weekend at the Jefferson Lehigh Valley Classic presented by Sodexo! Valley Youth House was a co-beneficiary of the tournament, alongside Sodexo Stop Hunger and the Eagles Autism Foundation , and we were truly blown away by the support this tournament received.

Members of Valley Youth House Leadership and of our Lehigh Valley Board of Governors even got to be honorary pin flag holders on Sunday. Anne Baum, Chair of our LV BOG, Adam McMahon, Vice Chair of our LV BOG, Christina Schoemaker, MBA, CFRE, our Executive VP of Advancement, and Emily Conners Henry, our Director of Advancement & Marketing, all got the once in a lifetime opportunity of holding the pin flag by the 18th green in a PGA Champions Tour event.

We were so honored and privileged to have our life-changing programs and services supported by this tournament. It was an amazing event that brought so much awareness to our mission and impact to the youth we serve, and we were humbled to be a part of it. Thank you to Jefferson Health, Lehigh Country Club, HNS Sports Group, and everyone else who made this possible!

We had an absolutely unforgettable night hosting PGA golfer Bo Van Pelt at our High Point office for a meet & greet with the youth we serve! Bo, who is in town for the Jefferson Lehigh Valley Classic presented by Sodexo, of which VYH is a co-beneficiary, met the young people and was kind enough to share stories about his career, give advice about overcoming life’s challenges, and fielded questions from the youth in attendance. His warmth and thoughtfulness were infectious, and it is an evening that will live in the memories of all who experienced it!

Before Bo’s arrival, we also had the opportunity to treat the youth to a mini golf experience in the office, thanks to The First Tee Lehigh Valley & Berks. They came in and transformed our office space into a mini golf course, complete with obstacles and challenging layouts. It was a unique, engaging way for the youth to get some hands-on experience with the sport of golf before meeting Bo.
