On June 16, 2026, the Ahuas Clinic celebrated 80 years of serving the La Moskitia region of Honduras. In honor of this milestone, the Clinic held a public health fair in the village of Krupunta! The celebration, which gathered over 350 people, demonstrated the Clinic's dedication to meeting both medical and spiritual needs, combining music and games with medical provisions and presentations.

Students from the Samuel B. Marx Institute performed traditional dances and artistic presentations, and led games for the children in attendance. Pastors from the local churches also brought their choirs to sing special hymns. A good time was had by all!

In addition to the fun, medical staff gave public health presentations, administered influenza vaccinations, offered medical tests, and more. The Ahuas Clinic staff wore matching green t-shirts, inspiring confidence in the Clinic. Some of the public health achievements of the event include:

- 115 pairs of reading glasses distributed
- 15 people diagnosed with cataracts
- 28 people with advanced pterygium examined
- 68 glucometry tests performed and 2 people diagnosed with diabetes
- 264 blood pressure tests performed and 84 treatments for hypertension distributed
- 230 medical prescriptions issued

We were glad to support this day of service and celebration!

The Ahuas Clinic has been meeting medical and spiritual needs in the La Moskitia region of Honduras since June 16, 1946 (that’s 80 years ago today!). As we celebrate this significant anniversary, we give thanks for all who have supported the Clinic's ministry over the past 80 years. Lives have been saved, children have been fed, clean water has been supplied, and relationships have been built as partners work side by side. Whether you have visited Ahuas on a short- or long-term mission trip, packaged medical supplies or baby blankets, prayed for our siblings in La Moskitia, or made a financial contribution to support the Clinic's work, you are a part of this important legacy. Thank you for your committed support of the Ahuas Clinic!

This video includes a brief testimony from Nancy Gilliland, who served as a nurse at the Ahuas Clinic for several years in the 1960s. As this anniversary year continues, we will be sharing more stories from Nancy and others who have been forever changed by their work at the Clinic.

If you would like to make a gift in honor of the 80th anniversary, you can do so online at MoravianMission.org/Give. Please designate your gift to “Ahuas Clinic.” Thank you!

On May 13–17, we held our annual BWM service camp at Mt. Morris Camp & Retreat Center in Wisconsin. Nearly 30 volunteers — about half of them first-timers — gathered from a half dozen states to take on a variety of projects identified by the camp.

Thanks to their hard work, Mt. Morris now has a new set of campfire benches, a freshly painted parking lot, refurbished games, cleared trails, new carpet in the office, fewer invasive species, a generous supply of firewood, and much more.

The BWM is grateful for every volunteer who showed up ready to serve. We know our camps are an important part of the life of the Moravian Church and our shared call to mission, and we are glad to help care for these special places.

Our next service camp is at Camp Hope, New Jersey, June 16–21. Register online at MoravianMission.org/ServiceCamp/. More opportunities are coming next year!

Thank you to all of the volunteers who joined us at Mt. Morris last week for our service camp! It is a joy to work with Moravians from so many congregations as we work to get our Moravian camping facilities ready for summer programs.

The Board of World Mission (BWM) continues to stand alongside the Moravian Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands Province (MCJCI) as they enter into the longer recovery effort following Hurricane Melissa, which devastated the island of Jamaica last October. The Jamaican Provincial Elders' Conference is working with engineering consultants to develop repair and rebuilding plans for congregations affected by the disaster. While significant work and communication remain ahead, this planning marks an important step in shaping how recovery will unfold in the months and years to come.

We anticipate hearing more specific details—and receiving more funding requests for individual building projects—as these plans take shape. The needs will be substantial, and our capacity to respond faithfully in the months ahead depends upon the generosity of donors today.

Through the faithful partnership of Moravians across North America, the BWM has sent more than $100,000 in Hurricane Melissa relief support to the Jamaican province. Additional support will be needed as repair and rebuilding plans are finalized and implemented.

We are aware that many across our congregations are eager to offer hands-on assistance. While volunteer work by North American mission teams is being considered as part of the recovery, the leadership of the Jamaican province has communicated that they are not yet ready to host traveling mission teams. We will share opportunities as they are available.

100% of donations received for our MDR Fund go directly to providing relief for these disasters. You can assist us with our disaster response efforts by giving online at MoravianMission.org/Give. Please designate your gift to “MDR.”
