Northeast Community Center is proud to recognize Ebony Gee as a recipient of the Bethlehem and Morning Star Rotary Clubs Scholarship Fund in Remembrance of Stephen P. Godbolt!

From participating in NECC’s Homework Club and summer camp to returning to give back to her community, Ebony’s journey reflects the lasting impact of education, opportunity, and community support.

Currently attending Cedar Crest College, Ebony is studying Nuclear Medicine with the goal of becoming a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, helping patients through medical imaging and nuclear medicine. This scholarship will help support Ebony’s continued education at Cedar Crest College as she works toward her career goals.

As Ebony beautifully shared, “Northeast Community Center has forever impacted my mindset when it comes to education and personal growth. I will always carry the core memories and life lessons I have accumulated throughout my time at this center.”

We are honored to have been part of Ebony’s journey and are excited to see all that she will accomplish. Her story is a reminder that investing in our young people creates a lasting impact that extends far beyond the classroom.

We are proud to provide a scholarship through our Sally Young Scholarship Fund to Jomari Sotomayor as she begins an exciting new chapter in her educational journey!

Jomari is in her first year at NCC, where she is majoring in Theater and pursuing her passion for the performing arts. 🎭 What makes this achievement extra special is that Jomari was once a young participant in our very own programs, including Summer Camp and Homework Club!

Through this scholarship, funds covered the purchase of a laptop to support her studies, along with financial assistance to put toward her tuition. 💻📚 We are so proud to support her continued growth and education and to see how far she has come. Her journey is a beautiful reminder of the lasting impact we can make when we invest in our youth!

👏 Congratulations, Jomari! We wish you continued success as you pursue your dreams and look forward to seeing all the amazing things you accomplish!

NECC is so thankful for the wonderful volunteers at Burnside Plantation who picked and deliver fresh produce to us weekly! 🥕🥦🍅🥔🧅

We are so appreciative of your partnership with us! Thanks for providing NECC’s Food Pantry with healthy veggies for our community! 😊

The doors of the Johnson Barn at Burnside Plantation recently swung open to the fields, and the people who keep the farm growing sat down to share a meal. Long tables draped in white linen ran the length of the barn, lined with jars of dahlias and zinnias and strung with small lights.

The guests of honor were the more than 30 volunteer gardeners who plant, w**d, and harvest the Louise W. Dimmick Kitchen Garden. This season they grew more than 1,100 pounds of fresh produce. Most of it went back into the community, supporting two local food pantries through New Bethany Ministries and Northeast Community Center. Some made its way downtown to plates at Historic Hotel Bethlehem.

The hotel returned the favor with a big batch of macaroni and cheese, and the gardeners brought the rest: tomato and cucumber salads, roasted squash, greens, bean salads, and plenty of sweets. Much of it came from the Burnside field or their own backyards.

That’s what the garden does. It keeps Burnside what it has always been, a working farm, with rows in use and food on its way to someone’s table.

This year, gardeners also expanded the herb beds. Some of those herbs will appear in our Root Cellar Remedies: Revolutionary War Medicine workshops on October 10 and 17, where you can explore how plants grown close to home were used to treat illness and injury.

To every gardener who knelt in the dirt this season: thank you! Your work fed families, stocked a hotel kitchen, and kept a historic farm working.

Our Designer Purse BINGO was a HUGE hit! We had a packed room, an incredible turnout, and so much energy from the first game to the last. 👜✨ We’re so grateful to everyone who came out, played, laughed, won some amazing bags, and helped make this fundraiser such a success.

A HUGE thank you to our incredible volunteers, board members, and staff who put in so much work behind the scenes and throughout the event. We truly could not have pulled this off without you. 💛

And, of course, thank you to the sponsors and supporters who helped make the night possible: Highmark Wholecare, Working Dog Press, Michele Fragnito, Rackas Consulting, Mike’s More Miles, OPP Family, People’s Security, Just Born, Wegmans, Tom’s Organizing, FOP, and Taggart Associates, along with our wonderful board members and friends who showed up for NECC.

Most of all, THANK YOU to everyone who bought a ticket, played a special game, grabbed some food, entered a raffle, or simply came out to support our work. And an extra thank you to everyone who brought canned goods with them! 🥫❤️ Those donations will go right back into supporting families through our food pantry.

Seeing a room this full of people coming together for NECC and our community means the world to us. We hope you had as much fun as we did last night and judging by that turn out, we might have to start thinking about the next one!
