Laughing At My Nightmare, Inc.

Laughing At My Nightmare, Inc. Our brilliant and handsome President is a dude named Shane Burcaw. No one wants to see that, especially not us.

At LAMN, we provide life-enhancing adaptive equipment, emergency financial assistance to people with disabilities, and college scholarships to individuals living with muscular dystrophy! We have to tell you about him because he's in a wheelchair, so if he isn't getting lots of attention at all times, he gets moody and sometimes cries. Shane was born with a super sucky disease called Spinal Muscula

r Atrophy Type II, which causes his muscles to waste away over time. In 2011, Shane started a humorous blog to tell his life story. The blog blew up, achieving HALF A MILLION followers (a number that still grows to this day). As the popularity of Shane's blog grew, he set out with his cousin, Sarah, to co-found Laughing At My Nightmare, Inc.! At LAMN, we work to improve the quality of life for people living with disabilities by providing FREE adaptive equipment, emergency financial assistance, and college scholarships. Since 2015, we have supplied over $1,100,000 in assistance to the disability community and we are no where close to slowing down!

This photo was sent to us after our second Tech-cessibility campaign in 2018, when we provided 15 iPads to people with disabilities who needed them.

15 iPads.

Today, that number might seem like a drop in the bucket. But back then, we were still figuring everything out, working our butts off, and trying to help wherever we had the capacity to.

Those 15 iPads were everything to us.

Eight years later, our programs are bigger, the equipment we fund has expanded, and the dollars go much further. But seeing someone receive something they needed because of LAMN?

That part still feels exactly the same. 💛

This is LAMN.

For anyone new around here, we thought we'd introduce ourselves.

Shane and Sarah are cousins who started Laughing At My Nightmare together in 2012. What began as a pretty simple idea has grown into a nonprofit that has now provided more than $1.5 million in assistance to people with disabilities across the country.

Shane is LAMN's President and cofounder. He lives with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and has spent much of his adult life writing, speaking, and advocating for disability inclusion.

Hannah is Shane's wife and an important part of the LAMN community. Together, Shane and Hannah share their lives and experiences as an interabled couple and have helped millions of people better understand disability, relationships, accessibility, and inclusion through Squirmy and Grubs.

Sarah is LAMN's cofounder and Vice President and works behind the scenes running much of the organization's day-to-day work, from our assistance programs and fundraising to partnerships and everything in between.

Today, LAMN provides funding for adaptive equipment, assistive technology, scholarships, and other resources that help people with disabilities live more independently.

We're a small organization doing work that means an enormous amount to us, and we're incredibly grateful for the community that has grown around it.

Whether you've been here since 2012 or found us five minutes ago, welcome to LAMN. 💙

Bodypoint has spent decades creating postural supports for wheelchair users, and right now, they’re using their 1991 Drop to give back to LAMN.

Through September 10, all profits from these shirts benefit Laughing At My Nightmare and our programs supporting people with disabilities across the country.
So yes, Sarah (LAMN cofounder and Shane's cousin), will happily model the shirts. 😂

Grab yours (also available in black, cropped, and regular fit) and support LAMN at the same time!

We talk a lot about our wins. But 14 years of LAMN has included plenty of things that didn’t work, too.

Fundraisers that barely raised money. Ideas we were positive people would love. They did not. Grant applications that took days and ended in a no. Programs we’ve changed because we learned there was a better way.

We’ve tried, failed, learned, changed, and kept figuring it out.

Because even when an idea failed, the need never disappeared.

And that has always been reason enough to keep going.

Lehigh Valley friends, this one’s for you!

People of all ages and abilities are invited to experience Broad Street without vehicle traffic, followed by a community festival at the Bethlehem Rose Garden with music, food, local vendors, and more.

We know our community is always looking for inclusive events happening around the Valley, so we wanted to make sure this one was on your radar!

Over the years, LAMN has helped fund countless pieces of adaptive and medical equipment and more than once, we've placed an order through an equipment provider and seen Bodypoint listed right there among the components.

Which makes this pretty cool.

Now, Bodypoint isn’t just showing up on the equipment we help provide. They’re showing up for LAMN and the people we serve. ❤️

Through their limited-edition 1991 Drop, Bodypoint is donating 100% of profits on shirt sales to LAMN, with a guaranteed minimum donation of $2,000 to support our work providing direct assistance to people with disabilities.

There’s something really meaningful about a company that creates products wheelchair users rely on every day choosing to invest even further in this community.

So yes, buy the cool shirt. 😎 But know that behind it is a company helping us keep saying YES to more people who need equipment, technology, and resources that can make everyday life more accessible.

Thank you, Bodypoint, for supporting LAMN and for being part of this work in more ways than one.

Order yours by September 10 AND use promo code NIGHTMARE for 10% off (until 8/31) your purchase: https://shop.bodypoint.com/

We’ve been working on something behind the scenes for a while now… and we’re almost ready to tell you about it. 👀

But first, we want to hear from you.

Think about the places you visit in your own community: the coffee shops, restaurants, stores, and other small businesses you love.

What’s one accessibility barrier you wish more local businesses would address?

And remember: accessibility isn’t always about whether something technically meets ADA requirements. Sometimes it’s about noticing the everyday barriers that make a space harder to enter, navigate, use, or enjoy (and asking), “How could we make this experience better for more people?”

Maybe it’s a step at the entrance. A heavy door. An inaccessible bathroom. A lack of accessible seating. A counter that’s too high. Or something most people wouldn’t even think about.

We want to hear what YOU notice. Drop it in the comments!

More soon. 👀
