Laughing At My Nightmare, Inc. Our brilliant and handsome President is a dude named Shane Burcaw. No one wants to see that, especially not us.

At LAMN, we provide life-enhancing adaptive equipment, emergency financial assistance to people with disabilities, and college scholarships to individuals living with muscular dystrophy! We have to tell you about him because he's in a wheelchair, so if he isn't getting lots of attention at all times, he gets moody and sometimes cries. Shane was born with a super sucky disease called Spinal Muscula

r Atrophy Type II, which causes his muscles to waste away over time. In 2011, Shane started a humorous blog to tell his life story. The blog blew up, achieving HALF A MILLION followers (a number that still grows to this day). As the popularity of Shane's blog grew, he set out with his cousin, Sarah, to co-found Laughing At My Nightmare, Inc.! At LAMN, we work to improve the quality of life for people living with disabilities by providing FREE adaptive equipment, emergency financial assistance, and college scholarships. Since 2015, we have supplied over $1,100,000 in assistance to the disability community and we are no where close to slowing down!

It's Wednesday.

We checked the calendar three times because we're pretty sure it was just Monday five minutes ago.

If you're also wondering where the week went, you're not alone.

As a reminder:

Drink some water.
Reply to that email you've been avoiding.
Stretch something.
Resist the urge to start a brand-new project at 4:47 PM today (EHEM, SHANE).
Remember that "I'll do it after lunch" is not actually a scheduling system.

And if you're looking for one productive thing to do today, tell someone about Laughing At My Nightmare. Word-of-mouth has helped our little nonprofit grow from a kitchen-table idea into a community that's provided more than $1.3 million in direct assistance to people with disabilities.

Happy Wednesday. We're all doing our best. šŸ˜…

Calling Bethlehem-based photographers!

We just had a last-minute cancellation and are looking for a photographer to help capture our 2026 Run, Walk & Roll on Saturday, June 6 at SteelStacks in Bethlehem, PA.

This event brings together runners, walkers, rollers, families, and supporters from across the disability community to raise funds for adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and scholarships. It's one of our favorite days of the year, and we'd love to have someone help us document it.

The event runs from approximately 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM. While we unfortunately don't have room in the event budget for a paid photographer this year, we'd be happy to recognize your business, share photo credit, and provide documentation of your in-kind contribution.

If you're interested or know someone who might be, please send us a message or email [email protected].

As always, thank you for helping a small nonprofit make a big impact.

What do you think of our attempt at the "Blue Steel" pose? (PS: this is a photo of cousins and LAMN cofounders, Shane and Sarah, for those who will ask)

At LAMN, we have something really exciting in the works centered around accessibility and community inclusion. But if there’s one thing we’ve learned over the last fourteen years, it’s that the disability community itself needs to help guide these conversations.

We’re looking for POSITIVE accessibility stories. Moments where a business, organization, event, employee, or community space made you feel genuinely welcomed, included, and considered.

And to be clear, we know those positive experiences can sometimes feel few and far between. We hear the frustration, exhaustion, and barriers our community faces every single day. That’s exactly why we believe it’s important to also highlight the moments where accessibility is done well because those examples help show what’s possible and push the conversation forward in a productive way.

Accessibility should never be viewed as an inconvenience or afterthought and we know it goes far beyond ADA compliance. It changes whether people can participate in their communities, support local businesses, attend events, and simply exist in spaces with dignity. We want to use our platform and reach to help amplify examples of inclusion done right and encourage more of it.

If you have a positive accessibility experience you’d like to share, we’d love to hear it and your story may even be featured on our website: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CVRS9MB

Happy Birthday Shane! šŸŽ‰šŸŽ‰

I turn 34 today, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt the last year has contained both my highest moments of life and my lowest. Some of the lows have been truly harrowing, and I yearn for the day I can tell you more about that, but what’s most important to me, today, is that I’ve gotten through them and my life is vastly improved because of that journey. I’ve never felt more myself, more alive, than I do right now, which is quite a cool statement to be making!

Life has truly never been better. Now, I’m going to try what I always try and use my special day to do some good with your help! You all kinda owe me a gift anyway because I’m extremely cute and funny and nice.

You know the drill. My charity (Laughing At My Nightmare, Inc.) has a virtual worldwide 5k fun run happening this summer, and Hannah and I have made an online team. Every single registration we can get means more resources to provide disabled people free adaptive and medical equipment. THIS PROGRAM IS MY HEART. Idk what that even means but I feel it in my BLOOD. I need all of you supporting me by joining our team!

It’s super easy to register, AND if you happen to be around eastern Pennsylvania on June 6th, there’s an in-person 5k too that Hannah and I will be attending. So sign up for that if you’re around and come say happy birthday to my face!!!!

Sign up for either in the comments below! Thank you and love you all!

Throwback to when Shane genuinely believed watching Gatorade commercials was elite athletic training advice.

Honestly, this explains a lot about the energy he brings to Run, Walk & Roll every year. Somewhere between ā€œmotivational sports montageā€ and ā€œabsolutely unqualified.ā€

The fact that he made an entire series back in 2015 of ridiculous 5K training tips no one asked for will never get old.

Every registration helps make adaptive equipment, assistive technology, scholarships, accessibility support, and emergency assistance possible for disabled individuals and families across the country.

You can participate from absolutely anywhere, at any pace, and in whatever way feels accessible to you.

So yeah… this is your sign. Join us before registration closes šŸ’™

Accessibility matters because life is meant to be lived.
Friendships. Family. Travel. Creativity. New experiences. Laughing until your face hurts in the middle of a random sunny afternoon.

That’s the stuff worth fighting for.

ā€œHow do you review applications for adaptive equipment assistance at LAMN?ā€

That’s a great question! ā¤ļø

At LAMN, applications are reviewed through a thoughtful committee process that looks at overall need, impact, financial circumstances, and the type of equipment being requested.

We also review applications across categories like mobility & seating, home accessibility, vehicle accessibility, assistive technology & communication, and recreational devices to help ensure support is distributed as equitably and thoughtfully as possible.

At the end of the day, our goal is simple: At the end of the day, our goal is simple: make grants that create the greatest possible impact by helping people access the equipment and support they need to live more independently.

(Shoutout to cousins and cofounders of LAMN Shane and Sarah's alma mater, Moravian University, where this photo was taken!)
