Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley Connecting volunteers with the needs of the Lehigh Valley community for over 35 years! Incorporation followed in 1985.

The Volunteer Center began in 1982 when the Junior League of the Lehigh Valley voted to establish a Voluntary Action Center as a project, pledging $30,000 over a two-year period. In 1989, the Volunteer Center became an internal department of the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley and in January 1997, the Volunteer Center again became an independent agency — the Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley. Today, the Volunteer Center focuses on three main areas of volunteerism: Educate, Coordinate and Motivate. These are the core of what we do, who we are and our programs, projects and events reflect these areas. The Volunteer Center is affiliated nationally with The Points of Light Institute, HandsOn Network, and the Corporation for National & Community Service, and is a member of the following: Volunteer Centers of Pennsylvania; the State Commission Advisory Board for Citizen Service; Keystone Service Coalition; United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley; and Society of Volunteer Administrators of the Lehigh Valley. In 2015, the Volunteer Center recruited, matched, recognized, and trained more than 20,000 volunteers. The Volunteer Center collaborates with more than 50 area corporations and 450 Lehigh Valley agencies to create educational and human service partnerships to enhance and enrich the Lehigh Valley community.

November 16–21 is the 5th Annual Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week in the Lehigh Valley, organized by The Lehigh Conference of Churches

Throughout the week, community members are invited to take part in events centered on education, advocacy, compassion, and action around hunger and homelessness in our region.

We’re proud that the Lehigh Valley Nonprofit IMPACT Conference on November 18 is part of this year’s lineup. Attendees will have the opportunity to choose from two breakout sessions focused specifically on hunger and homelessness, including one featuring Abigail Goldfarb, Executive Director of The Conference.

“Because we’ve always done it” isn’t a strategy.

Executive Directors, join us on Thursday, October 1 from 8:45–10:00 AM on Zoom for our next Peer-to-Peer conversation: Evaluating Programs, Events & Traditions.

How do you know when a long-standing program or event is still worth the time and resources it requires? And how do you navigate concerns from donors, staff, or board members when it might be time for a change?

Join fellow nonprofit leaders for an open conversation about impact vs. effort, evaluating what still serves your mission, and confidently approaching change within your organization.

We’re still feeling the incredible impact of United Way Day of Caring 2026. 💛

Across two days of service, volunteers from businesses throughout the Lehigh Valley stepped away from their desks, rolled up their sleeves, and contributed more than 8,800 hours of service to our community.

But Day of Caring is about more than the hours logged or the projects completed. It’s about businesses connecting with nonprofit missions, volunteers seeing community needs firsthand, and organizations receiving the extra hands and support that help move their work forward.

To every corporate team, nonprofit partner, volunteer, and supporter who made these two days possible—thank you. Your time, energy, and commitment created an impact that will continue long after the projects themselves are finished.

That’s a wrap on United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley of Caring 2026! 💛

Across two incredible days, nearly 1,700 volunteers showed up throughout the Lehigh Valley to support local nonprofits, tackle meaningful projects, and make a real difference in our community.

From hands-on service to behind-the-scenes support, every team brought energy, care, and a willingness to jump in where it was needed most. The projects may be wrapping up, but the impact will continue long after today.

Thank you to every volunteer, corporate team, nonprofit partner, and supporter who helped make this year’s Day of Caring such a powerful example of what can happen when our community comes together.

We’ll be sharing more photos and project highlights soon!
