BROWNIE WILL WALK AGAIN! 🙌 🐶
Adorable Brownie from California was in a life-threatening neurological crisis due to acute Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD). He was suffering from severe spinal pain, intense muscle spasms, and progressive hind-leg weakness. The disease had progressed quickly; he was unsteady when walking and was dragging his back paws. He could no longer control his bladder or bowels.

Brownie was put on strict crate rest for several weeks paired with anti-inflammatory drugs and pain relief medications; however, his symptoms persisted. Brownie needed an emergency MRI and a surgical hemilaminectomy to decompress his spinal cord before he became permanently paralyzed. 💔

The surgery was estimated at $11,318.30, which includes a 48-hour post-surgery hospital stay for intensive monitoring and strong intravenous pain relief. Brownie’s mom could not afford the surgery and was facing the heartbreaking decision to let Brownie cross over the rainbow bridge. She frantically applied for grants from multiple nonprofit organizations and incredibly secured all but $1,500.00. She reached out to us to see if we could cover the cost.

We used funds from our “Just 4 Dogs” Fundraiser, and Brownie had surgery last week. He is home and doing well. Brownie will be on 4 to 8 weeks of strict crate rest, careful pain management, and assisted mobility support. This adorable little guy now has a chance to walk pain-free again!

We will have more updates on Brownie soon.

Today is International Day of Charity! - A day to raise awareness, encourage solidarity, and to help others through volunteer and philanthropic activities.

In honor of this day, we reflect on our 13th year journey of saving lives and express our deepest gratitude to the generous animal lovers whose donations make our mission possible. 😽

To illustrate the profound difference our supporters make for pets and their families, we are proud to share a heartfelt testimonial from Sylvester's mom. She recently submitted a review to Great Nonprofits.

She said, "A True Blessing ❤️ I honestly don’t know what I would have done without The Love of Alex. My sweet Sylvester came home with a very serious injury that had become severely infected, and as a single mom with very little income, I was terrified. I had no idea how I was going to afford the care he desperately needed. The Love of Alex stepped in and completely changed everything. They not only paid his veterinary bills in full for his injury and treatment, but they also covered his neutering. Because of their kindness, Sylvester got the care he needed and the chance to come home healthy and happy. I truly believe that without them, I don’t know if Sylvester would still be here today. They didn’t just help my cat—they helped save a member of our family. I will forever be grateful for The Love of Alex and everyone who makes their mission possible. possible. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving my sweet boy a second chance!"

HELP FLUFFY & HIS MOM! 🐈
This gorgeous boy, Fluffy, from California, is currently suffering from severe lethargy and recurring fevers ranging from 103 to 105 degrees. Blood tests showed slightly elevated cholesterol and white blood cell count; after an initial round of medications and fluids, he has not shown any improvement. 😿

His veterinarian suspects Fluffy has an abscessed tooth. Fluffy was not cooperative for an oral exam and would need to be sedated for further investigation. Given his breed, Chinchillas are more prone to Periodontal Disease, Tooth Resorption, and stomatitis due to their jaw structure and skull shape.

Fluffy's veterinarian has recommended a dental cleaning with possible extractions estimated between $1,142.00 and $1,442.00 depending on the extent of his oral disease.

His worried mom reached out to us and said, “Fluffy is my cherished and vital companion. Because I am permanently disabled. I struggle with severe depression and anxiety. He has been a very important source of comfort and emotional support for me.” 💗

Please help this cherished, sweet boy get the care he needs so he can feel better again and return to being the healthy, happy companion his mom relies on. Donate here to help: https://on.ftloa.org/4wMWBXK

HELP SAVE CHAMPAGNE'S LEG! 🍾 🐈
Gorgeous Ch*****ne from Pennsylvania was tragically hit by a car and suffered severe injuries to her right back paw. Her mom rushed her to emergency care, and X-rays revealed that two of Ch*****ne’s toe bones were broken.

Her foot was bandaged, and she was put on crate rest and treated with antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and pain medications. However, her foot became infected, causing irreparable damage to the tissue surrounding the broken toes. 💔

Ch*****ne needs surgery to amputate the two broken toe beans to SAVE the rest of her leg. Her mom maxed out her CareCredit account for Ch*****ne’s emergency treatments. She can not afford another $1,000.00 for surgery.

Ch*****ne’s mom said, “This has been heartbreaking and overwhelming, both emotionally and financially. The emergency care, follow-ups, and now the cost of surgery have come at a time when I was not prepared for something this devastating. I cannot lose her because of money.”

Please help save Ch*****ne’s leg and bring her bubbly personality back again. Donate here: https://on.ftloa.org/4gtjAkp

GEORGE'S TESTS ARE PENDING! 🔬 🐈‍⬛
We helped handsome George from Illinois with the cost of his urgent veterinary care. George had a chronic skin condition that did not resolve with medications.

George had a skin biopsy procedure; a small piece of his skin was surgically removed and sent to a laboratory. A veterinary pathologist will examine the tissue under a microscope to identify whether he has skin cancer, an immune disease, a deep infection, or an unusual skin condition, which will help determine the nature of his skin disease and the right course of treatment. We should have the results in 7-10 days.

George’s neck was bandaged to prevent him from scratching the sutured incision site. We will have more updates on George soon!

BERNIE IS FEELING WOOF-DERFUL! 🐶
Bernie, a gentle giant from Minnesota, was in desperate need of multiple dental extractions due to advanced dental disease and tooth resorption. We used funds from the “Just 4 Dogs” Fundraiser and got Bernie into surgery.

Bernie had 4 rotten teeth removed and a full cleaning. He is doing well at home recovering. His mom said, “He's definitely bright-eyed now. Getting back to himself, and he actually seems to be a little happier. The vet said it was the teeth in back definitely causing the pain and that surprisingly the rest are healthy for his age.”

We will have more updates on this gentle giant soon!

PRAYERS FOR LITTLE CALLIE! 🙏
We helped 8-week-old Callie this week with the cost of her life-saving surgery for a rare congenital deformity in which the sternum and costal cartilages develop abnormally, resulting in a sunken or concave chest, which reduces chest volume, potentially compressing the heart and lungs. 💔

The surgery went well, and Callie was discharged; however, 24 hours later, her mom could tell something wasn't right. She rushed Callie back to the Emergency Veterinary Hospital. Diagnostic bloodwork and X-rays were taken.

Callie's blood Glucose levels had dropped significantly; she was administered supplemental nutrition and IV fluids, and she was monitored overnight. Callie's vet said, "She is eating and doing kitten things; however, she is not out of the woods yet, and we would like to take her off the sugar supplement and see if she can maintain. I don't feel comfortable sending her home. We want to monitor for another 24 hours."

This little girl is a fighter,🤺 and we are going to give her every chance to live a long life! The additional hospitalization has cost $1000+ so far. We used funds from the Emergency Fund, but the fund is getting low.

If you can spare a few dollars to help with Callie's continued medical care, please donate here: https://on.ftloa.org/HelpSaveCallie
