BROWNIE WILL WALK AGAIN! 🙌 🐶
Adorable Brownie from California was in a life-threatening neurological crisis due to acute Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD). He was suffering from severe spinal pain, intense muscle spasms, and progressive hind-leg weakness. The disease had progressed quickly; he was unsteady when walking and was dragging his back paws. He could no longer control his bladder or bowels.
Brownie was put on strict crate rest for several weeks paired with anti-inflammatory drugs and pain relief medications; however, his symptoms persisted. Brownie needed an emergency MRI and a surgical hemilaminectomy to decompress his spinal cord before he became permanently paralyzed. 💔
The surgery was estimated at $11,318.30, which includes a 48-hour post-surgery hospital stay for intensive monitoring and strong intravenous pain relief. Brownie’s mom could not afford the surgery and was facing the heartbreaking decision to let Brownie cross over the rainbow bridge. She frantically applied for grants from multiple nonprofit organizations and incredibly secured all but $1,500.00. She reached out to us to see if we could cover the cost.
We used funds from our “Just 4 Dogs” Fundraiser, and Brownie had surgery last week. He is home and doing well. Brownie will be on 4 to 8 weeks of strict crate rest, careful pain management, and assisted mobility support. This adorable little guy now has a chance to walk pain-free again!
We will have more updates on Brownie soon.
