Bethlehem NH is a beautiful town nestled next to the White Mountain National Forest, with spectacular views of Mount Washington gracing its Main Street.
For much of its recent history, it has hosted a large landfill owned by Casella Waste Management. The history is long, contentious, divisive, dispiriting.
Our mission is to lead our town into a brighter, more sustainable, healthier future—one not built on a mountain of garbage. We deserve a town we can all be proud of—today and tomorrow.
We are not asking you to “Believe” anything. We are simply asking you to Dream Bigger. To Build. To do Better for ourselves and our children.
Bethlehem has many amazing things on the horizon. New growth. New businesses. New faces. New dreams. And important goals, like lowering our tax rate, attracting more businesses, welcoming new homeowners. And Healing. Ending our battles. Getting closure.
Bethlehem has never been more poised for change. With a $15 million-dollar Bretton Woods gondola, restaurant and conference center expansion in the works, and a new Hilton Homewood Suites hotel gaining Planning Board approval—along with several other new businesses—we can replace the revenue lost from landfill closure!
And with a court sanctioned Settlement Agreement with Casella in place, we can cap and close the landfill for good—without legal battles. We hold all the power. Casella cannot ever expand again—unless we let them.
We can either choose to have 20 more years of the same—hosting a multistate landfill depositing nearly a million tons of garbage per year in the heart of our beautiful town, with grave environmental concerns, violations, lawsuits, odor, noise, depressed property values, divisiveness, and stigma of being known as the “dump town” of NH—or we can Vote NO to expansion and set a Brand New course for the future of our town for good.
A massive landfill should not define us or the future of our town. Now is the time to embrace a new today and a brighter, more sustainable future. We have the resources—we just need to protect them.
Any expansion warrant article put forth by Casella will be a decades-long contract that takes away our right to vote on landfill expansion for generations.
We deserve better. We are a passionate, driven town of doers. We know how to get things done. It's time to pull together and work together. Let’s Make a Plan. Let's Do Better than a dump.
Let's not give the future of Bethlehem away. Let's keep the power to decide on and build the kind of town we want—and the legacy we set. We urge you to imagine and embrace a brighter future for our town without Casella and its massive landfill.
