It's time to submit your abstract for ISWG symposium at TWS Annual Conference! Deadline May 22!
The Invasive Species Working Group is holding a symposium at the Iowa conference called "From Iowa to the Nation: How One Congressman Championed Invasive Wildlife Prevention and How We’re Building on His Novel Concept".
The brief description is "Iowa’s U.S. Representative John Lacey used his unrelated background as a railroad lawyer to devise the first federal law in 1900 to protect native wildlife and prohibit the importation of invasive wildlife into the United States. This session will highlight subsequent creative efforts to prevent and manage invasions of wildlife."
We are interested in highlighting creative current and emerging policy and research efforts to prevent and manage invasive species on any scale—small or large. Did you solve an invasive wildlife problem with a novel approach? Did you find a way to convince the public how your invasive wildlife-related action would benefit them? Abstracts should be submitted through www.wildlife.org. Please see instructions for abstracts here:https://wildlife.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/TWS-2026-Call-for-Abstracts_FINAL.pdf

The Invasive Species Working Group is co-sponsoring a webinar in co-ordination with the Forestry and Wildlife Working Group to give a platform for this important restoration project. April 28th from 2-3:00 ET

"The Lingering Hemlock Project, a subset of The Nature Conservancy’s “Tree Species in Peril,” aims to locate and selectively breed eastern hemlocks with genetic resistance to the hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA). This insect is invasive in eastern North America and has already contributed to widespread hemlock mortality in much of the southeastern United States. As it continues to spread through the northeastern US, research into how to save hemlock trees is ramping up." Read more on link. Webinar is free and open to anyone, but register on the link.

Hello, I'm Su Jewell, the Chair of the TWS Invasive Species Working Group (ISWG). After a bit of a Facebook hibernation, I'm resurrecting it to resume sharing of events, activities, and news.

First is the voting for the new ISWG Board (Officers and Executive Board). If you're a member in good standing (dues are paid up), you should have received an email from me about the election, and you can vote. Voting is open now, but it will close on Friday, January 16. We need your votes!

Once I get the election results after January 16, I'll hold a virtual meeting with the new board members for us to get acquainted for their 2-year terms. Current and outgoing board members will be invited, too.

PLEASE VOTE! Now is a good time while you're thinking about it. Here is the link to vote:
https://twselection.site/election_iswg_2026/.
Note that there is a link to the nominees' bios on the voting page.

Good luck to all the candidates! I'm looking forward to an active year in 2026!
