We welcomed the recipients of the "Jim Phang Aspiring Scientist Award." Created by our club in collaboration with ScienceMONTGOMERY and in memory of and National Institutes of Health (NIH) cancer researcher Jim Phang, the award recognizes outstanding student research in health and science. This year's winning projects explore topics ranging from artificial intelligence-assisted antibiotic discovery and cancer treatment resistance to sustainable plastics and antimicrobial design. As we honor Jim's lifelong commitment to scientific discovery and improving human health, we are also reminded of the remarkable talent, curiosity, and dedication of the next generation of scientists. The future is in good hands.

Kelsey Nicole Nelson has reported from eight Super Bowls, covered the Ravens and Commanders, and earned DMV Sports Media Person of the Year. But her real mission? Making sure the next generation has an easier path. From teaching sports writing at GW to mentoring students and serving with Special Olympics, Kelsey believes in lifting as you climb. Raised in Clarksburg with a gift for storytelling and a love of sports, she's built a career on passion, persistence, and purpose. Her message is simple: give yourself grace and space to go, grow, and glow.
