Next Wave Muslim Initiative - NWMI

Next Wave Muslim Initiative - NWMI NWMI is an organization dedicated to serving and educating the American Muslim community of the DC metropolitan area. NWMI is both organization and platform.

As an organization, NWMI consists of a group of Muslims whose vision is to promote – by Allah – the principles of Islam to an American Muslim audience. As a platform, NWMI serves as a launching point for a variety of programs and projects to serve the needs of the Muslim community in the path of Allah. NWMI’s primary objective is broad but simple: through programs that serve the individuals, famil

ies, and communities of the next Muslim generation, the message of Prophet Muhammad (saws) and his family may continue to spread in a way that is meaningful and relevant, insha Allah.

Our beloved tradition of celebrating Eid at the Farm is back and better than ever!

10AM: Eid Prayer
We will begin with an open-air Eid prayer led by Brother Basil Eldadah, Executive Director of Reflection Park, at the beautiful and serene Green Meadows Petting Farm, followed with breakfast sandwiches.

**To honor the significance of our Eid prayer, please be mindful of fellow community members if you arrive while the prayer or khutbah is in progress.**

11AM-3PM: Carnival
This year's Eid carnival is packed with gravity-defying thrills, friendly competition, and nonstop fun in which kids, teens, and parents can ALL participate!

Zip lining: Soar over the farm at 20 mph to get a bird's eye view of the animals (all ages welcome; must at least 45 lbs; parent waiver required)

Bungee jumping: Jump, flip, and somersault up to 20 feet in the air (all ages welcome, must be at least 30 lbs; parent waiver required)

Pirate ship ride: Swing higher and higher for stomach-dropping fun (all ages welcome; must be at least 36" tall)

Inflatables: Challenge friends or family members to a battle of balance, speed, and agility on the 120-ft obstacle course, wrecking ball, and 24-ft double slide

Our youngest visitors (and those who prefer low-altitude fun) will especially enjoy:

Toddler obstacle course

Face painting, air brushing, henna tattoos

Cotton candy & ice cream

Farm fun: Take a sensory break on a peaceful hay ride, burrow and dive in the corn pit, and go on a farm animal scavenger hunt to win a prize

Halal food trucks will have lunch and coffee available for purchase after 11am, and the farm is also selling zabiha halal hot dogs and doughnuts while supplies last!

Bring your family, invite your friends, and celebrate Eid with your NWMI community. Registration is required so please register today!

Teens, join us to prepare meals for those in need.

This Ramadan, as we work to strengthen our connection with Allah, let’s make a real difference and join hands to prepare meals for those in need.

This Saturday, the NWMI Teen Council is collaborating with Feeding Forward to prepare meals for 100+ individuals in need. Together, we will pack lunch bags that Feeding Forward volunteers will then deliver to local shelters. Don't miss out on an opportunity to serve the community!

Registration is required. Logistical details will be shared with registered participants.

The slopes were calling! 🏔️

What an absolute adventure, mA! Our hearts are full after watching our incredible teens conquer the mountains this weekend. ⛷️❄️

Their teamwork and determination strengthens and builds our community and it is remarkable to watch.

Huge shoutout to our NWMI Teen Council Leadership who were dedicated to make it all happen:

⭐ Sulaiman Saleem (President)
⭐ Mansoor Taheri (Vice President)

These visionaries put in countless hours to make this happen and ensure a fun and safe environment for our teen community. (They even recruited chaperones to whom we are forever grateful!)

We can't wait to see where your leadership takes us next! Bismillah!

Join us on Saturday, January 24 as we hit the slopes together at Liberty Mountain Resort for an exciting day of skiing and community bonding. This is a new experience for NWMI teens in a teen group, and our Teen Council President and Vice President have been putting in the work to make this happen!

Whether you’re brand new to skiing or you already have experience, there’s a place for you. Ski rentals are available and teens will receive guidance to ensure safety and support throughout the day.

We aim to create meaningful and fun opportunities for our teens. Let’s make our first ski trip one to remember, inshallah!

Registration is required and will close tonight, Wednesday, January 21 at 11:59 pm. Ages 13 and up only.

The Connections program is a monthly series designed to provide a space for spiritual rest and growth and increase connection with Allah. You are invited to bring your worries, stressors, and joys to this space and leave with a renewed sense of ease and connection with Allah through a combination of dhikr, reading from holy texts, reflection and sharing, and guided journaling.

In this month's session, we will be discussing and practicing how to connect with our inner light even as the outer darkness of winter continues. We will work on expanding our inner prayer niche - the place we go to internally to connect with Allah.

The program will be led by Nadia Hashimee, a Sufi Healing Practitioner and a student at the University of Sufism and Institute of Spiritual Healing. Nadia's expertise and guidance will provide a nurturing and enriching experience for all participants. Nadia holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Mary Washington and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from George Mason University.

A light dinner will be served. Ages 13 & up only. Registration is required.

If you missed this year's teen Laser tag event, then you really missed it! So many new faces, mA! What great additions to our community!

It was 🔥! After fun ice breakers and two sessions of laser tag, our leadership presented multiple options for games.

VP Mansoor led an Islamic trivia and it was nice to see how many teens knew the answers and couldn't decide who said it first!

Until next time, iA!
