Meet BFP, Part 1: The Junior Advisory Committee (JAC) đź’™

The Junior Advisory Committee, also known as the JAC, is a small group of trusted, early-career professionals that believe in the vision of Building Futures Project, advise the BFP Board of Directors, and operate as ambassadors of our service work both domestically and internationally.

JAC’s ultimate goal is to provide fresh perspectives and feedback, ensuring that the communities we work with remain at the center of everything we do. They will also create meaningful engagement on and beyond our volunteer trips and lead innovative initiatives for programming, fundraising, social media, and outreach.

Please join us in welcoming our exceptional Junior Advisory Committee: Edward Aragon, Taylor Fields, Whitney Clarke, Lyndsey Gerold, Milton O’Brien, and Magdalena Ralston! 👏

What a weekend it was with ! 🤗

BFP had the amazing opportunity to sponsor the Ignation Family Teach-In For Justice 2025 this past weekend. Being a part of the largest Catholic Social Justice gathering in the U.S. was incredibly empowering and we loved being able to connect with so many awesome and inspiring students!

This year’s Teach-In honored the Jesuits and their companions martyred in El Salvador in 1989. With Sean having roots in Jesuit education and so much of our work focused in El Salvador, this conference was the perfect match. Being surrounded by a community that also sees faith and justice as fundamentally intertwined as we do was extremely motivating to say the least and we can’t wait to go again next year!

POV: You spent your Friday evening at BFP’s Inaugural D**k & Donate Pickleball Tournament! 🤩

A huge shout-out is in order to everyone who dinked, donated, heckled, supported, and sponsored our first-ever pickleball tournament last Friday evening! It was an incredible night with great food, great people, and loads of competition… I mean fun!

None of this would have been possible without Ana Matan Nolan and Mia Poulos! Thank you both so much for organizing a wonderful and seamless event. We are already counting down the days to when we can do this again! 🤭

Building Futures Project is a proud Sponsor of Ignation Family Teach-In For Justice 2025! 🌟

’s Teach-In is a place for members of the Ignatian family (Jesuit institutions and larger churches) to be empowered, re-energized, inspired, challenged, and supported by a community that sees faith and justice integrally linked. This year’s conference honors the enduring legacy of the Jesuits and their companions martyred in El Salvador in 1989.

📆 Join us and the Ignation Solidarity Network November 15-17 in Washington D.C. for the largest Catholic Social Justice gathering in the U.S. Learn, pray, and become a better advocate through engaging sessions and dynamic networking events.

Last week, Executive Director Sean Hanel participated in Madison High School’s WINGS Internship Career Fair. 📥

Madison High School invited 30 local businesses to interview and connect with students. Students can then apply for spring internships with the businesses that they were the most interested in. MAD WINGS empowers students to take ownership of their education and push them to recognize how today’s opportunities and choices can shape their future.

Building Futures Project interns are individuals who want to learn how a small business operates and what it takes to run a nonprofit, from working with schools and businesses to connecting with clients and donors!

Check out part two of our Executive Director’s chat with Founders Bank for their “Faces of Founders” series! 🤩

Through this campaign, they’re highlighting and celebrating local businesses that share their commitment to building stronger communities. Founders Bank knows that when those businesses thrive, our entire community thrives too.

“Building Futures Project, Inc. empowers families with critical support and inspires U.S. students to see the power of giving back. Service has a ripple effect, and change doesn’t happen alone. That spirit doesn’t end abroad, it comes home with them, creating stronger communities here as well. Founders Bank is honored to support a mission that plants seeds of hope and service no matter where you are.”

BFP Blast! 🚨

One of the nuns that oversees the St. Óscar Romero museum asked if we would put a plaque on the wall. On Sunday, we installed it. The inscription translates to “In gratitude to St. Romero for teaching us how to be a voice for those without a voice.”

Our continued work is grounded in St. Óscar Romero’s enduring vision of unity, compassion, and justice. We’re deeply grateful to work alongside such resilient people and to witness and support the ongoing history of El Salvador! 🇸🇻

BFP Blast! 🚨

Here’s what’s been happening lately with our organization:

Slides 1-3: Last year, we moved into a beautiful new rental for our volunteer house, that’s located right on the shores of Lake Coatepeque! This gated property includes space for up to 20 participants, multiple bathrooms and showers, a private dock, and even a pool.

Slide 4-7: Big changes are happening at the community center in Las Delicias! 4 new spaces were donated to us, which will be dedicated to our Hot Lunch Program. 2 rooms will serve as the dining and serving area. 1 side room is being renovated into a wheelchair-accessible bathroom with a baby changing station. And last but not certainly not least, the kitchen is getting a full upgrade— clean water with filtration, a fridge, sink, and stovetop.

Over the last 6 months, we’ve repainted the walls, installed a new roof, added fans, lights, windows, and electricity.

Huge thanks to all our volunteers who continue to show up and pour into these projects—in both Las Delicias and Ciudad Arce. We can’t wait to share what’s next! ❤️
