Wonders Early Learning + Extended Day believes children develop and learn through play in a nurturing and diverse community. We are a nonprofit provider of accredited early childhood education, before/after school, and summer camp with flexible programs, for children ages two months through sixth grade with nine programs in NW Washington, DC and Maryland.

Drum roll please... the final Professional Development Week recap is here! 🎉 Wednesday was BUSY:

📚 We started with a conversation about Wonders Fundamentals, discussing the purpose behind our values and philosophy and how that translated into high-quality programming.
🏅Our staff heard Wonders updates from directors and members of the Admin team. We celebrated annual milestones - this year recognizing staff who have been with Wonders for 20, 10 and 5 years!
💚 We welcomed all new staff to the Wonders community.
📷 Everyone received their new (super comfy) Wonders staff T-shirts and took group photos.
🎁The team enjoyed a delicious lunch and raffle with prizes provided by our partners at Insperity! Label makers, art supplies and more to start the program year off strong 🖍 Huge thank you to: (and the rest of the Insperity team)!
💭 Saba Ahmed returned to lead all staff in her training "Implicit Bias: Knowledge and Strategies for Sustainable Impact." Our community shared about our own experiences with bias and learned new tools for approaching people with more understanding.

All Staff Professional Development Week is in full swing! This week, all programs met at the Jane E. Lawton Recreation Center for community conversations and educational workshops. Coworkers connected while preparing to start an exciting new program year.

Recap of Tuesday:
🗣️ Extended Day educators learned about managing behaviors with Dr. Renee Deboard-Lucas, licensed psychologist .deboardlucas
🗣️ Saba Ahmed, a former member of the Wonders team, led a talk on Developmentally Appropriate Practice, or "Meeting each child where they are." In attendance were our Preschool and Pre-K educators
🗣️ Dr. Amanda Holliday-Bembridge spoke to our Infant & Toddler educators about responsive routines, schedules and environments
⛑️ Educators renewed their certifications in a First-Aid/CPR skills assessment with Life Rescue Training

We talk with our hands when we're passionate 🙌 Day 3 of All Directors Professional Development Week brought deep discussions about what quality means at Wonders.

Everyone received a copy of the book Human Raised by , which our Directors and Assistant Directors will read and discuss. The book explores raising children as AI becomes more prominent in our everyday lives. It will serve as a helpful guide for our team in nurturing children and understanding the dangers and benefits of tech.

The team also exchanged thoughts about Toy Story 5, comparing their own childhood experiences to those of the children we work with.

Summer is winding down, but Wonders' All Directors Professional Development Week has officially kicked off! Our Program Directors and Assistant Directors came together yesterday to connect, reflect, and prepare for the upcoming program year. Here's a recap of Tuesday:

🏢 The team met to review our values, Strategic Plan, and goals for the program year. Executive Director Joanne Hurt and Deputy Executive Director Rose Wasserman led a collaborative discussion about workforce development and employee success at Wonders

pov: You blinked and it's the last day of Wonders Summer Camp 2026 🤯

The campers spent their final day playing kickball, crafting sweet surprises for friends, and enjoying their last Water Day of the summer. From making rubber band jewelry to turning buckets of water into "The Wonders Spa," these campers never failed to show off their creativity. 💡

🏀The Ladybugs explored motion with balls, water and vehicles
🐾The Bumblebees had a roaring good time with animal-themed sensory experiences and habitat building
🐍The Butterflies investigated reptiles and even created their own anaconda with textured paper!

Exercising our minds, bodies, and creative spirits! Week 5 of Summer Camp was a flurry of activity between comic book creation, games, and a fashion show! The children also visited the Water Park at Bohrer Park in addition to their usual trip to the pool and Water Day fun. 💦
