"When we asked Uncle Wade Ishimoto about the most demanding leader he had ever worked for, he responded quickly.

'Demanding is sort of an oxymoron,' he said.

Uncle Wade, who was born and raised in Hawaiʻi, enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1961 and went on to serve in the U.S. Army Special Forces and as a founding member of Delta Force. We sat down with him to talk story about life and leadership. And yes, he had his fair share of demanding bosses."

Trump Establishes Military Spouse Commission

“The commission, which is authorized by Executive Order 14415, will provide recommendations for improving the quality of life for military spouses by addressing common challenges, such as housing, employment, healthcare, childcare, education and ‘just about everything else you can think of,’ according to the president.”

President Donald J. Trump signed an executive order in the White House's Oval Office establishing the President's Military Spouse Commission.

I Am An American: The Nisei Soldier Experience - Traveling Exhibit

"This new traveling exhibit shares the storied history of second-generation Japanese Americans, known as 'Nisei,' who demonstrated their loyalty during World War II by enlisting to serve in the U.S. Army.

Now on display at the Presidio in San Francisco, California through August 2026! This national tour will travel to 11 venues across the United States over the next five years. Next stop - the Bishop Museum in Hawaii."

Hawaii veterans reflect on their service as America marks a milestone

“As the United States celebrates 250 years since its founding, the role of the military — older than the nation itself — and those who served in it has taken center stage in commemorations.

People from Hawaii have served in the U.S. military and fought in America’s wars since well before the annexation of the islands in 1898.

The first person from Hawaii known to have done so was Humehume, the son of Kauai’s King Kaumuali‘i, who enlisted in the Marine Corps and served aboard the USS Wasp during the War of 1812 and later reenlisted and fought in the Second Barbary War.”

Sterling Kanoa Beair served as an Army combat medic in Iraq. He excelled in the military, attaining the rank of staff sergeant and earning accolades from his comrades and superiors.

The Japanese American Veterans Association (JAVA) awarded its 2026 Memorial Scholarships. Fourteen students received a total of $33,000 to support undergraduate, graduate and professional studies. Congratulations to all the recipients!

Osaka orphanage children arrive in Honolulu for 77-year tradition visit

“On Tuesday, July 21, four children from an orphanage in Osaka, Japan, arrived in Honolulu for a two-week stay hosted by the 27th Infantry Regiment, The Wolfhounds, and the non-profit Peace Bridge.

The children will experience Hawaii culture firsthand, with the hopes of building lasting relationships rooted in compassion and goodwill.”
