United Lodge of Theosophists Washington DC "To Spread Broadcast the Teachings of Theosophy as Recorded in the Writings of H. P. Blavatsky and William Q. Judge" U. L. T.

Declaration
The policy of this Lodge is independent devotion to the cause of Theosophy, without professing attachment to any Theosophical organization. It is loyal to the great Founders of the Theosophical movement, but does not concern itself with dissensions or differences of individual opinion. The work it has on hand and the end it keeps in view are too absorbing and too lofty to leave it the

time or inclination to take part in side issues. That work and that end is the dissemination of the fundamental principles of the Philosophy of Theosophy, and the exemplification in practice of those principles, through a truer realization of the SELF; a profounder conviction of Universal Brotherhood. It holds that the unassailable basis for union among Theosophists, wherever and however situated, is "similarity of aim, purpose and teaching," and therefore has neither Constitution, By-Laws nor Officers, the sole bond between its Associates being that basis. And it aims to disseminate this idea among Theosophists in the furtherance of Unity. It regards as Theosophists all who are engaged in the true service of Humanity, without distinction of race, creed, s*x, condition or organization, and

It welcomes to its association all those who are in accord with its declared purposes and who desire to fit themselves, by study and otherwise, to be the better able to help and teach others. "The true Theosophist belongs to no cult or sect,
yet belongs to each and all." The following is the form signed by Associates of the United Lodge of Theosophists:

Being in sympathy with the purposes of this Lodge, as set forth in its "Declaration," I hereby record my desire to be enrolled as an Associate, it being understood that such association calls for no obligation on my part, other than that which I, myself, determine.

This “secret doctrine” contains the alpha and the omega of universal science; therein lies the corner and the keystone of all the ancient and modern knowledge; and alone in this “unphilosophical” doctrine remains buried the absolute in the philosophy of the dark problems of life and death. –Isis Unveiled, I, 511

Mental discipline in the way of compelling yourself to serious reading and thinking, even though for a short time each day, if persisted in, will gradually change the mental action, just as one can alter the taste for different sorts of food taken into the body. –W. Q. Judge

Are things going hard with you? If so, it is time to push harder along the way you know. That will inevitably destroy all obstacles, and if persisted in during stress generates and maintains greater powers of resistance. Everybody on the Path goes through similar obstacles; by having them and overcoming them you become teachers with knowledge of how to help. If you had no obstacles, you would not know how. Thank Karma for obstacles. –Robert Crosbie

Before the Soul can comprehend and may remember, she must unto the Silent Speaker be united, just as the form to which the clay is modelled is first united with the potter’s mind. –The Voice of the Silence, 3

Get rid of vanity, anger, pride, resentfulness, and ambition. –W. Q. Judge

Man has lived lives anterior to this one, not few but many—even on a plane which we inhabited before this earth began, or rather, before we began with this earth. –Robert Crosbie

Theosophically, Action and Inaction encapsulate the journey of the Eternal Pilgrim towards final liberation from the bonds of conditioned existence.
Inaction as Detachment from Fruits of Action
 He who, having abandoned all desires, acts without longing for results, without any sense of “I” or “mine” obtains tranquility. (Bhagavad Gita)
 He should be known as a perpetual renouncer who neither likes nor dislikes; free from the pairs of opposites, he is easily set free from bo***ge. (Bhavani Shankar)
 Let us, at the very outset, wash out of our souls all desire for reward, all hope that we may attain. For so long as we thus hope and desire, we shall be separated from Self. (W. Q. Judge).
Renunciation of Action
 The man of purified heart, his senses restrained, and for whom the only self is the Self of all creatures, is not tainted although performing actions. (Bhagavad Gita)
 Whoever in acting dedicates his action to the Supreme Spirit and puts aside all selfish interest in their result is untouched by sin, even as the leaf of the lotus is unaffected by the waters. (Bhagavad Gita)
The Right Performance of Action
 The right attitude to follow is that of performing every act, small or great, trifling of important, simply because it has to be done. (W. Q. Judge)
 It is not the nature of the act, but the mental attitude of the performer, that is of importance. This the moral teaching that runs through the whole of the Bhagavad Gita. (T. S***a Row)
 The journey of thy mortal frame cannot be accomplished by inaction. All actions performed other than as performed unto God makes the actor bound by action. Abandon then, O Son of Kunti, all selfish motives and in action perform thy duty for him alone. (Bhagavad Gita)

The closer the approach to one’s Prototype, “in Heaven,” the better for the mortal whose personality was chosen, by his own personal deity (the seventh principle), as its terrestrial abode. For, with every effort of will toward purification and unity with that “Self-god,” one of the lower rays breaks and the spiritual entity of man is drawn higher and ever higher to the ray that supersedes the first, until, from ray to ray, the inner man is drawn into the one and highest beam of that Parent –SUN. –The Secret Doctrine, I, 638-9

All the truths of Theosophy, all the axioms of occultism, are, if I may so put it, the apotheosis of common sense. When you see a lack of that—beware! You may be sure that their knowledge is defective, erratic, ill-digested; every psychic, every seer, every hearer to the contrary. –W. Q. Judge

The keeping in mind that the Masters are not only Ideals, but Facts, and that all that H.P.B. and W.Q.J. have written about Them was for our help and encouragement in the struggles that must be ours, brings us closer to Them and makes us strong with the power that flows from such reliance. –Robert Crosbie

It is an occult law, moreover, that no man can rise superior to his individual failings, without lifting, be it ever so little, the whole body of which he is an integral part. In the same way, no one can sin, nor suffer the effects of sin, alone. –The Key to Theosophy, 201

You ask about the ‘moment’ of choice’. It is made up of all moments. It is not in space or time, but is the aggregation of those moments flying by us each instant.—W. Q. Judge

We accept and know many things interiorly, but if we are to give others the proper words and ideas that will convey them, we have to be able to formulate them; so we practise formulation of answers, constructing them ourselves, or adopting those used by others that do so effectively. –Robert Crosbie

Ere thou canst settle in Dhyana-Marga and call it thine, thy Soul has to become as the ripe mango fruit: as soft and sweet as its bright golden pulp for others’ woes, as hard as that fruit’s stone for thine own throes and sorrows, O Conqueror of Weal and Woe. –The Voice of the Silence, 65-6

The practice of Benevolence, Tenderness, and Complacency brings about cheerfulness of the mind, which tends to strength and steadiness. W. Q. Judge

Each one contains within himself the power to cause sorrow; he also has the power to cause its cessation. Robert Crosbie

The Masters require only that each shall do his best, and, above all, that each shall strive in reality to feel himself one with his fellow-workers. –Five Messages, 24

Experience we must have, and if we accept it at our own hands we are wise. That is, while striving to do our whole duty to the world and ourselves, we will not live the past over again by vain and hurtful regret. –W. Q. Judge

No circumstances can arise that will deprive you of the power of assistance, if that is your inmost desire. For are you not greater than any circumstance? And are not all circumstances your field of battle. Therefore, arise, O Arjuna, and resolve to fight. –Robert Crosbie

02/12/2025

The unity of God, the immortality of the spirit, belief in salvation only through our works, merit and demerit; such are the principal articles of faith of the Wisdom-religion. –Isis Unveiled, II, 116

Anxiety is an obscurant and deterrent. So try to acquire patient resignation. –W. Q. Judge

The allegory of the Tower of Babel applies to the present times. Everything is in confusion, everyone talking his own gibberish . . . . All that can be done is to let the light so shine that all who will may see it, thus sowing for future harvest. It would be a hopeless task were it not for Reincarnation; so the great effort should be to promulgate the fundamental principles of Unity, of Brotherhood, of Karma and Reincarnation. –Robert Crosbie
