Today, the Trump administration announced the latest move in its effort to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education, which could jeopardize educational equity and opportunity for countless students. Moving special education programs and the office of civil rights to other federal agencies undercuts the Department of Education’s stated mission to coordinate and administer critical programs that schools and families rely on to support children and youth.

School psychologists are essential members of school teams that provide critical services to students with disabilities and their families, and we understand the chaos and uncertainty that this could bring to schools and families who rely on the federal government’s protections for their children’s well-being. NASP calls on Congress to exercise its oversight authority over these decisions and urgently pass legislation that will bar the Trump administration from moving these functions out of the Department of Education, where they belong under the law.

NASP is proud to endorse the Keep Public Funds in Public Schools Act, legislation that would repeal the federal tax credit private school voucher program which could divert as much as $50 billion in taxpayer funds to private and religious schools, that do not serve all students or uphold their civil rights.
Send a letter to your Members of Congress urging them to cosponsor this bill and protect public education funding! Act Now: https://buff.ly/QU1Foj3

This weekend, we brought together both our current and incoming Boards of Directors for an important time of connection, collaboration, and planning.

Board members spent the weekend discussing NASP’s next strategic plan, preparing for the upcoming leadership year, and strengthening the long-term vision that helps move our work forward.

We’re grateful for the dedication and leadership of these volunteers as they help shape the future of NASP and school psychology.
