This month, we joined friends all around the world to celebrate International Youth Day on August 12th, with the theme: "Different Contexts, Common Aspirations."

What a great reason to celebrate creativity, curiosity, courage and potential of young people everywhere.

At the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington, we believe every young person deserves opportunities to learn, lead, discover their passions and build a brighter future.

From the classroom to the pool, the playing field to the community, we’re proud to create spaces where young people can belong, grow and thrive.

Here’s to the next generation of changemakers!

Today, the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington joins our community in recognizing Juneteenth, commemorating June 19, 1865, when news of freedom reached the last enslaved people in the United States.

We take time to recognize this important moment in our nation's history and celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of Black Americans that continue to strengthen our communities and enrich our shared experience.

At the Y, we remain committed to creating welcoming spaces where everyone can learn, grow, and belong.

Wishing our community a meaningful Juneteenth. ❤️💛🖤

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is proudly participating in Five Days of Action®—a week-long campaign to increase awareness of child sexual abuse and empower and equip us all to prevent it.

As part of our ongoing commitment to child safety, we are continuing to take part in this important campaign and reinforce abuse prevention practices year-round to protect all children in our community.

For Women's History Month we're celebrating women of the Y like Addie Hunton, one of only three African American women assigned to serve over 200,000 segregated Black troops stationed in France as part of the YMCA’s massive World War I support effort.

We're also lifting up Janice Paton, the first woman to be named to the National YMCA Board of Directors in 1962. At the youthful age 26, she broke barriers and paved the way for women’s leadership across the Y movement!
