Today, we honor Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates the freedom, resilience, and contributions of Black Americans throughout history.

Juneteenth is both a time of reflection and a reminder of the ongoing work to build communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. At Cornerstone, we recognize that hope, healing, and access to care are essential components of creating a more equitable future.

As we celebrate this important day, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering inclusive communities, reducing barriers to behavioral health care, and ensuring that every individual is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion.

Happy Juneteenth.

This June, we're inviting men across Cornerstone to share their perspectives on mental, physical, and emotional well-being.

We asked:

"What is one thing you've learned about taking care of your mental, physical, or emotional health that you wish more men talked about?"

First up is Benji, Vocational Program Supervisor.

For Benji, taking care of his health means recognizing that wellness is about more than physical strength. It's about staying connected, leaning on others when life feels overwhelming, and understanding that vulnerability is not weakness.

One message he wants other men to hear:

"You're not alone, I promise."

As we recognize Men's Health Month, we hope these stories encourage meaningful conversations about wellness, support, and the importance of seeking help when needed.

What is one thing you've learned about taking care of your own health that you wish more people talked about? Leave a comment below.

Did you miss our May edition of Cornerstone Connections?

This month, we're highlighting one of the featured videos from the newsletter, where Cornerstone's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Joy Chang, discusses the growing need for accessible, integrated, and sustainable behavioral health care.

As mental health needs continue to rise, so does the importance of connecting physical health, behavioral health, and community support. Dr. Chang shares why coordinated care matters and how innovative approaches can help create better outcomes for the individuals and families we serve.

At Cornerstone, we believe recovery is strongest when people are supported as whole persons, not defined by a diagnosis.

Watch Dr. Chang's message and learn more about the future of behavioral health care.

In this video, Cari Guthrie, President and CEO of Cornerstone Montgomery, shares what that reality means for the people we serve and the staff who make that care possible every day. From significant funding reductions to rising operational costs and ongoing gaps in Medicaid reimbursement, the pressures are real and they are growing.

But so is our commitment to the individuals and families who rely on us for stability, housing support, recovery services, and mental health care. More than 3,000 people depend on Cornerstone each year to help them move from crisis toward stability and possibility.

We cannot do this work on mission alone. It takes partners who believe that everyone deserves consistent, compassionate care, even when systems fall short.

If this message moves you, we invite you to stand with us.

Your gift today helps ensure that care continues, staff are supported, and hope remains steady for those who need it most.

Give today and help illuminate hope.

For much of her life, Margi struggled with depression, anxiety, isolation, and the feeling that she had nowhere to turn.

Stories like Margi's are only possible because of supporters who believe that every person deserves the opportunity to thrive.

As funding uncertainty grows and the need for behavioral health services continues to rise, your support helps ensure that people facing mental illness, recovery, crisis, and uncertainty are not left to navigate those challenges alone.

"We talked about our stress, and it became more manageable. Nothing I said was bad, and they accepted me as I was. For the first time in my life, I felt happy."

For many people living with mental illness, the hardest step is finding a place where they feel safe enough to be heard.

Margi's words remind us that healing often begins with something simple but powerful: being accepted, supported, and understood.

Her story is one of resilience, growth, and hope. It is also just one of many stories from the individuals and families Cornerstone has the privilege of walking beside every day.

Behind every service is a person. Behind every person is a story worth telling.

Stay tuned. Tomorrow, you'll hear directly from Margi as she shares her journey in her own words and the impact that support, connection, and hope have had on her life.

Did you miss last month's Cornerstone Connections newsletter?

One story that resonated deeply during May's Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month focused on the importance of awareness, education, and the language we use when discussing postpartum mental health.

Too often, postpartum is only discussed when someone is in crisis. But postpartum is not a diagnosis. It is a significant period of transition that can bring emotional, physical, and psychological challenges for many mothers. By increasing awareness, reducing stigma, and creating space for honest conversations, we can help ensure mothers feel supported before they reach a breaking point.

Watch this brief recap from our May newsletter and join us in promoting understanding, compassion, and support for maternal mental health.
