Baseball at Big Train 🚂 ⚾️💚

More than 60 Nourishing Bethesda volunteers and staff enjoyed opening night at Shirley Povich Field for the Bethesda Big Train game against the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts. For the sixth straight year, we were honored as Community Heroes by Big Train, enjoying some free tickets and hot dogs through a generous grant from the Jim and Carol Trawick Foundation. ✨

Our eight-year-old client Wadan threw in the first pitch, then jumped into a hot dog costume to race the mascots Homer and Bunt in the middle of the fifth inning. ⚾️

We also received a portion of the hot dog sales from Catalyst Hot Dogs, which will go directly toward feeding our neighbors in need. 🌭

The magical evening was capped with a walk-off win from the home team! ⚡️

Thank you, Bruce Adams, Carol Trawick, Chris Van Jura, and everyone at Bethesda Big Train for creating such a fun, community-centered event. Big Train is community at its best! 🤍

🧡 Wear Orange: Turning Awareness into Action 🧡

Thank you to the dedicated volunteers from St. John’s Norwood Episcopal Church Gun Violence Prevention Ministry, led by Margaret Hilton, and Moms Demand Action, led by Mehmood Nathani from the Montgomery County chapter, for joining us at Nourishing Bethesda’s 6th annual Wear Orange volunteer event honoring the memory of victims of gun violence.

The event began with a powerful presentation from Smita Varia of the Montgomery County Family Justice Center, who spoke about the intersections among domestic abuse, gun violence, and food insecurity—and the importance of addressing these challenges as a community.

Inspired by that message, volunteers rolled up their sleeves in our Choice Market, bagging groceries and fresh produce, assembling weekend food bags for local elementary school students, and packing bagels.

We are grateful to everyone who chose to honor Wear Orange not only by raising awareness, but by taking meaningful action to support neighbors facing difficult circumstances. Together, we are building a safer, stronger, and better-nourished community.

Kid-Powered Kindness! 💪🍎

A big thank you to Edell Shapiro & Finnan LLC for making Nourishing Bethesda the beneficiary of one of their Take Your Kid to Work Day activities!

Their amazing young volunteers packed bags full of healthy snacks that will provide our clients with quick, nutritious fuel for busy days at work, school, and on the go.

We love seeing the next generation learn that service can be both meaningful and fun. Teaching children the value of giving back helps build a stronger, more compassionate community for everyone — and these kids showed up with big hearts and helping hands!

Thank you for turning a day at the office into a day of impact and a big shout out to Leesa, an amazing volunteer and NB Captain, for organizing this again this year! ✨
