KYKD Translator and Class D Village Station Update:
All six KYKD translator stations and all four VisionAlaska Class D stations are on the air this morning.
The necessary monitors to activate the two Raspberry Pi computers at Meadow Ridge have arrived at the Anchor Point Post Office and should be picked up today. Palmer then intends to configure and send the devices to provide remote access at the KIAM tower site and at the K231BJ translator station in Eagle. He has not yet been asked to help set up the BRIC-Link for K231BJ, but is available to do so.
There is no further development in the plan for Palmer to visit the village on the Bering Sea coast in August to evaluate the potential for establishing a VisionAlaska station in that village.
VisionAlaska is willing to consider cooperating with VFCM in applying for new translator stations during the expected upcoming window to expand Christian radio in Alaska in partnership with VFCM.
KYKD Station Update:
Overall, remote operations of the stations from Meadow Ridge have again gone well this week.
Last Thursday the mysterious 11-second issue reappeared on the Yukon on-air computer. It was resolved by the usual restart of Simian on that computer. The next day an even more serious malfunction occurred when the Arctic on-air computer locked up and went silent in the early morning, which also destroyed the ability to contact the machine remotely. Jesse Ernst, on his last day in Bethel for several weeks, was able to force a restart and the computer recovered. Bonnie later discovered early on Saturday morning, however, that Simian File Sync had not resumed properly and thus many programs were not properly updated Friday night. Palmer manually restarted that utility remotely and all files were quickly brought up to date.
Shortly after 9:00 p.m. on Saturday evening KYKD was contacted by a listener complaining that two programs were airing on the station at the same time. Palmer accessed the station remotely and verified that that the problem was not local in Bethel but was present on the download stream of Faith of Record being received and directly aired from the I-AM Network satellite. Before he was able to contact Nenana about the issue, Mike apparently resolved it. Thanks much.
Yesterday KYKD sent a payment to SonSet Solutions for 20 more solar-powered SonSet radios. SonSet Solutions informed KYKD that the organization "Delivering God's Word Campaign" has added a blessing by providing an additional 20 radios and adapters free of charge.
Very early tomorrow morning Audio Scripture Ministries will interview Palmer in their weekly staff prayer meeting. That organization has long been involved with KYKD regarding the production of the Yup'ik Audio Bible.
Palmer expects to return to Bethel next Wednesday, June 17th, for some project work. Another trip which will include a work project to reinforce the Bethel broadcast tower is planned for early August. He has located small excavator in Bethel which will be available to excavate the anchorage holes, saving a lot of manual digging.
