News announcement! AVCP is accepting e-wastes from all, and so we are here to help.
We are excited to share with everyone that we are updating our ONC's Environmental Recycling Program by offering to pick up Electronic wastes such as printers, televisions, DVD players, computer monitors/towers, radios, microwaves, telephones, cellphones, laptops, wires and cords, anything that is considered an ELECTRONIC. We can also pick up household batteries too.
As for dryers, washing machines, electric ranges, freezers, we may offer information on how to fix them to help save you $$$ instead of throwing them away.
Why are we doing this? It's because we want to help reduce the amount of harmful toxins entering the environment and landfill. We want to help reduce the amount of exposure to unwanted litter near dumpsters.
We want to help encourage the community to help us reduce the amount of exposure of lead and other PFAS from where children play. The dumpsters are too close to the playgrounds and near neighboring homes where families with children live/play nearby.
We've actually found a lot of broken TV and computer screens pieces scattered near parks and in playgrounds while working with our ALPAR YLP! Dumpsters have a lot of harmful contaminants found in the soil around them and then so much more at the landfill. All because of no recycling!
The glass cathode ray tubes and circuit boards in older TVs contain an average of 4 to 8 pounds of lead - a potent neurotoxin that can cause brain damage in children - Exposed.
Please don't allow children to play near dumpsters or allow them to get "mud" from nearby to make mud pies!
TV screens and tubes also contain other toxic substances such as barium and cadmium. TV wiring is often insulated with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and flame retardants, which have been linked to illness in children. Ever wonder why your children keep getting sick??? It could just be caused from exposure to things you don't know about that can be found right out your back door!
Computers contain toxic heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, mercury and chromium, all carcinogenic and not easily degraded. Electronics should not be tossed into the landfill! Please help us recycle!
For anyone wishing to participate please call us at ONC 907-543-0516 and speak with Mary Matthias.
P.s. Please don't drop off anything near the ONC office. We'd rather pick up all recyclables and electronic waste. Thank you and please feel free to share this announcement with others.
