Le Korsa is a nonprofit organization that collaborates directly with doctors, teachers, students, artists and community leaders in Senegal to improve human lives. In Pulaar, a predominant language in the Tambacounda region where we mostly work, “korsa” means “love from respect.”

In the past decade, we have partnered with teachers determined to see children in rural villages gain the education tha

t will enable them to realize their potential; with doctors who labor under taxing conditions to provide health care to everyone who comes to their clinics and hospitals; with women who have recently established agricultural cooperatives to improve their families’ nutrition and develop their own income source; and with artists wanting to expand their work and explore their similarities with, as well as their differences from, people of various backgrounds. Le Korsa is an accredited 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in the U.S., with affiliated organizations in France, Ireland, and the United Kingdom; all donations are tax deductible in those countries. We are also legally incorporated as a charity in Senegal and work closely with their Health and Education Ministries.

In the dry season, heading to Fass requires a little wading through the shallow flow of the Gambia River. In the wet season, the river can run so high as to be impassable.⁠⁠
Pendant la saison sèche, pour rejoindre Fass, il faut traverser le lit peu profond du fleuve Gambie à gué. En saison des pluies, le niveau de l'eau monte tellement que la traversée devient impossible.⁠⁠

On July 24th, Les Foyers de Tambacounda held a ceremony to award course completion certificates in sewing and tailoring to nine girls who were not able to complete their high school education. For the past three years they have been working under the mentorship of the seamstresses of Sutura, a collective that produces reusable sanitary pads, tote bags and other items, and which operates out of Les Foyers. Upon graduating, the girls received an electric sewing machine and the other essential accessories and materials that will allow them to work as seamstresses and make a living from their own home. We're so proud of these young women, and we're thrilled to be helping director Maimouna Ka Sow extend the support of Les Foyers beyond the classroom.

There’s no sweeter sight than fresh pencils and pencil sharpeners, ready to benefit hundreds of students in rural Tambacounda whose families often cannot afford basic academic supplies. ⁠⁠
Quel bonheur de voir ces crayons et taille-crayons neufs ! Ils feront bientôt la joie de centaines d'élèves des zones rurales de Tambacounda, dont les familles n'ont pas toujours les moyens d'acheter les fournitures scolaires de base.⁠⁠

We recently planted 3 hectares of local rice. This rice, when harvested in October, will subsidize the cost of food for 144 girls living at Les Foyers de Tambacounda. Rice is eaten almost every day in Senegal, so having a local source that is not subject to import prices can help us ensure Les Foyers is sustainable for the long term. There is increasing interest in growing rice throughout Senegal and building up the local food system, and we're thrilled to be taking part and learning a lot in the process.

Yesterday, Senegal celebrated National Tree day! ⁠
Le Korsa has been working with local communities for years to reforest the designated forest of Boutou, on the outskirts of the city of Tambacounda. ⁠
In response to the national efforts toward planting and protecting indigenous trees, associations were invited to join the Regional Water and Forests Inspectorate to discuss and plan how we can better manage and protects Senegal’s trees.

has been a long-time partner of Le Korsa. Their doctors and nurses perform free cervical screenings to women in remote areas, helping them diagnose cancer early. We met everyone at Go Doc Go over ten years ago, and though our partnership started small, it has grown into an exceptional enduring collaboration that has brought better healthcare to thousands of women from Saint Louis to Tambacounda. Thank you Go Doc Go for all that you do!

To celebrate 2026 as the UN’s International Year of the Woman Farmer, we are highlighting stories where minimal means have maximum effect. Last year, the women farmers of Gadapara used their profits from the sale of vegetables to purchase chairs, bowls and cooking utensils which they rent out for events. This has created a second stream of income for them, and consequently for many families in Gadapara.
Pour célébrer l'Année internationale des agricultrices proclamée par l'ONU en 2026, nous mettons en lumière des exemples où des moyens modestes produisent un impact considérable. L'année dernière, les agricultrices de Gadapara ont utilisé les bénéfices tirés de la vente de légumes pour acquérir des chaises, des bols et des ustensiles de cuisine qu'elles louent à l'occasion de divers événements. Elles ont ainsi pu se constituer une deuxième source de revenus et, par là même, subvenir aux besoins de nombreuses familles de Gadapara.

Many children in the Tambacounda region lack birth certificates. Most often it’s because they were born in isolated villages without national registry offices, and their families could not afford to travel to the city to obtain one. Without a birth certificate, a child can still attend school, but they will later be denied entry to the national exams and their education will effectively come to a halt. We have been addressing this common problem by inviting families from nearby villages to each year to photocopy their ID’s and fill in the necessary paperwork to attain a birth certificate. Thread is the only place within miles with a printer and scanner, and our staff is on hand to ensure everything is in order and more children can stay in school.
Dans la région de Tambacounda, de nombreux enfants ne possèdent pas d’acte de naissance. Cela s’explique le plus souvent par leur naissance dans des villages isolés dépourvus de bureaux d’état civil, ainsi que par le coût du voyage vers la ville pour les familles. Sans ce document essentiel, un enfant peut certes être scolarisé, mais l'accès aux examens nationaux lui sera refusé, brisant net son parcours scolaire. Pour remédier à cette situation préoccupante, nous invitons chaque année les familles des villages voisins à se rendre chez . Notre centre est le seul à des kilomètres à la ronde à disposer d’une imprimante et d’un scanner. Sur place, notre équipe aide les parents à photocopier leurs pièces d’identité et à remplir les formalités nécessaires à l’obtention de l'acte de naissance. Cela garantit à un plus grand nombre d'enfants le droit de poursuivre leurs études.

Most village communities in Senegal use local thatch as roofing for their homes because it’s readily available and affordable. But the downside is that it is extremely flammable and becomes a hazard if fire breaks out, as it often does in rural Senegal due to the dry environment, controlled burning of agricultural land and traditional open-flame cooking in family homes. As a small, nimble NGO, we respond quickly when fires occur and provide aid in the form of food and bedding. In February of this year, a fire broke out in Koar, displacing many families. Thanks to your continued support, we were able to provide rice, oil, soap, cooking pots and mattresses to the community within hours of the incident.
Au Sénégal, la plupart des communautés villageoises utilisent la paille locale pour couvrir leurs toits, un matériau à la fois accessible et économique. Cependant, sa forte inflammabilité représente un réel danger. Les incendies sont en effet fréquents dans les zones rurales, alimentés par le climat sec, le brûlis agricole et l’usage de foyers de cuisson traditionnels à ciel ouvert.

En tant qu’ONG à taille humaine et réactive, nous intervenons rapidement en cas de sinistre pour apporter une aide d'urgence, notamment en nourriture et en matériel de couchage. En février dernier, un incendie a ainsi frappé le village de Koar, forçant de nombreuses familles à fuir leur foyer. Grâce à votre soutien continu, nous avons pu distribuer du riz, de l’huile, du savon, des ustensiles de cuisine et des matelas à la communauté, quelques heures seulement après le drame.
