Le Korsa collaborates directly with doctors, teachers, students, artists and community leaders in Senegal to improve human lives.

Le Korsa is a nonprofit organization that collaborates directly with doctors, teachers, students, artists and community leaders in Senegal to improve human lives. In Pulaar, a predominant language in the Tambacounda region where we mostly work, “korsa” means “love from respect.”

In the past decade, we have partnered with teachers determined to see children in rural villages gain the education that will enable them to realize their potential; with doctors who labor under taxing conditions to provide health care to everyone who comes to their clinics and hospitals; with women who have recently established agricultural cooperatives to improve their families’ nutrition and develop their own income source; and with artists wanting to expand their work and explore their similarities with, as well as their differences from, people of various backgrounds. Le Korsa is an accredited 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in the U.S., with affiliated organizations in France, Ireland, and the United Kingdom; all donations are tax deductible in those countries. We are also legally incorporated as a charity in Senegal and work closely with their Health and Education Ministries.

A calabash is a hollowed out and dried gourd that is a popular household item in Senegal. It varies in size, but a large calabash is often used to carry water from the well or vegetables from the market. Here it is being used as a bowl when preparing food in the kitchen.⁠⁠
Une calebasse est une courge évidée et séchée, très couramment utilisée au Sénégal. Selon sa taille, elle sert à puiser l’eau ou à rapporter les légumes du marché. Ici, elle trouve une toute autre utilité, celle d’un saladier naturel pour préparer les repas !⁠⁠⁠

In July we began the construction of a colorful community playground in the neighborhood of Plateau in Tambacounda. The playground is almost 100 yards wide and includes a mini football field, an exercise area for adults, and a playground made from recycled tires for kids. This recreational park has not only become a hub for children in the area but also finds an alternative use for tires that would otherwise be destined for burning.

Over the weekend, we hosted the final of the annual regional soccer tournament at Thread in Sinthian. The teams representing the villages of Sannkagne and Ngeen went head to head. After a neck and neck fight, Ngeen ended up on top. Congratulations to the 2026 champions!

Ce week-end à Sinthian, Thread a accueilli la finale du tournoi régional annuel de football. Les équipes représentant les villages de Sannkagne et Ngeen se sont affrontées. Au terme d’un match très serré, c’est Ngeen qui s’est imposé. Félicitations aux champions 2026 !

Peanuts, greens, onions and cashew apples: just some of the great produce coming out of the Sinthian women’s garden. Most of what the women grow, they take home for their families; but they also sell a portion to earn income and reinvest in seeds and gardening supplies for the following year.
Cacahuètes, légumes verts, oignons et pommes de cajou : aperçu des belles récoltes du potager des femmes de Sinthia. L'essentiel de la production sert à nourrir leurs familles, mais elles vendent le surplus pour générer des revenus et acheter graines et outils pour la saison suivante.

Every year, the Foyer celebrates the girls who have excelled at school by organising a camp during their school vacation. From the 7th to the 12th of September, these students spent four days at the Foyer participating in activities such as lacrosse, handball, theatre, soap-making, sewing and jewellery-making. They also had discussions with guest speakers around certain topics like female leadership and reproductive health.

Chaque année, les Foyers mettent à l'honneur les jeunes filles qui se sont distinguées à l'école en leur offrant un stage pendant les vacances scolaires. Du 7 au 12 septembre, ces élèves ont passé quatre jours inspirants au Foyer. Au programme : initiation au lacrosse, au handball, au théâtre, à la confection de savon, la couture et la création de bijoux. Elles ont également échangé avec des intervenants lors de débats captivants sur le leadership féminin et la santé reproductive.

Besides being an uplifting space in which artists work on their own projects, also serves the local population as a base for language and health classes, markets, parties, music performances, sports and more. Local teachers use its printer so they don’t have to write out all their exams by hand; children use its library for study halls or they draw in the art corner; and people often drop by to chat with one another while charging their cell phones. ⁠

En plus d’être un espace de création stimulant pour les artistes, est un véritable lieu de vie pour les habitants. On y retrouve des cours de langue, des ateliers de santé, des marchés, des fêtes, des concerts, des activités sportives et bien plus encore. Les enseignants y utilisent l'imprimante pour préparer leurs examens ; les enfants profitent de sa bibliothèque pour étudier ou dessinent dans le coin dédié aux arts plastiques ; et les habitants s’y retrouvent pour échanger tout en rechargeant leur téléphone.⁠⁠⁠
