On April 22, 2026, The Gatherings Teens Ignite +Ed Program took on The Red Barn for another amazing day of discovery, connection, and growth through nature 🌿🐴

A big THANK YOU to The Red Barn 💪🏽🙏🏽🫶🏽

Teens Ignite participants from Midfield High School had the opportunity to step away from everyday stress and engage in activities that supported social-emotional learning, behavior growth, teamwork, confidence-building, and emotional wellness.

Students participated in:
🎣 Fishing
🐐 Animal interactions
🎨 Painting activities
🌳 Nature exploration
🤝 Team building and connection

Experiences like this help students recharge, reflect, and discover healthy ways to manage emotions while building positive relationships with peers and mentors.

At The Red Barn, our youth had the chance to become one with nature, figuring out what helps them find peace, clarity, and strength.

Family looks different for everybody. 💕

Some families are loud. Some are quiet. Some are blended. Some are chosen. Some are held together by grandparents, aunties, mentors, cousins, friends, and people who stepped up with love.

Today on International Family Day, we celebrate the people who show up, support us, guide us, and remind us we’re never alone.

At The Gatherings, we believe strong communities start with strong support systems and meaningful connections. 🫶🏽

Thank you to former principal Dr. Perry of Fairfield High School for giving The Gatherings Mentoring Networking Outreach Group an opportunity during the spring of the 2022–23 school year to mentor and support students.

Thank you for trusting the vision and allowing our Teens Ignite program to mentor and support approximately 50 students yearly during your leadership.

This school year, the new principal Ms. Harton allowed our Teens Ignite program to return, and in December we were able to have open enrollment for students as we continued our mission of serving youth and families through mentorship, education, workforce development, and community support. Many students still continue to receive mentorship and support through The Gatherings, and in 2026 many students transitioned into our workforce development and internship program.

From me and The Gatherings, thank you to everyone who has supported, encouraged, partnered with, and believed in our vision along the way. 💜

My name is Jamie Oliver, Founder and Executive Director of The Gatherings Mentoring Networking Outreach Group, a grassroots nonprofit organization serving youth and families throughout Jefferson County and surrounding communities.

As I continue growing, I’m learning the importance of publicly acknowledging the people and organizations that helped me along the journey.

The vision for The Gatherings Mentoring Networking Outreach Group was built through faith, experience, mentorship, and community support. Prior to launching the organization, I had training and experience working with therapeutic foster youth, which strengthened my passion for education, mentorship, and youth development. I also attended The University of Alabama at Birmingham pursuing Elementary Education, which further fueled my passion for working with youth and families.

During the later part of the 2022 school year, I requested a meeting with the former principal Tenesha Armer Perdue of Midfield High School to share the vision God had placed on my heart about mentoring and supporting young girls. I had recently received our 501(c)(3) status and was receiving guidance and technical support from MENTOR.org while building the foundation for what would become this work.

I was still growing and learning, but she gave me an opportunity and trusted me enough to allow me to serve students. Thank you as well to the Midfield Board of Education and current principal and then-assistant principal, Mr. Aikerson, for continuing to support the vision and the work over the years.

From me and The Gatherings, we’re grateful for every school, mentor, supporter, partner, volunteer, donor, parent, and student who trusted the vision and allowed me space to grow and serve the community. Thank you to everyone who has played a role in this journey. 💙
