Disconnected veteran, rediscovered purpose, renewed belonging

Nate once stood in uniform, serving and protecting his community. But when his service ended, so did his sense of belonging. Homelessness left him adrift, living day to day out of a camper, unsure of where life was leading. The silence of isolation weighed heavy, and the path forward seemed uncertain at best.

Then, something powerful happened: people rallied behind him. Friends, neighbors, and caring community members reached out, offering not just services but connection. Bit by bit, Nate discovered he wasn’t alone. He found a village of support standing beside him.

With hope renewed and a community at his back, Nate is no longer just surviving — he’s on his way to independent living, carrying with him a future built on stability, dignity, and the deep sense of belonging he once thought was lost.

As part of this special day, we will be holding a Flag Retirement Ceremony with American Legion Post 30.

If you have any flags in need of retirement, bring them by and take part in this meaningful tradition.

📢Volunteer Highlight: Meet David! 👀

We are excited to introduce David, a dedicated volunteer at Camp Centurion who is stepping forward to teach our veterans computer literacy courses—a new program we’re proud to roll out with his support. 💻🇺🇸

David grew up in Wisconsin and dedicated 34 years of his career to Xerox in Rochester, NY. But his true passion has always been elevating others. For over 22 years, he volunteered as a Compeer, offering mentorship and encouragement to those in need.

He has also shared his knowledge by teaching computer skills to displaced homemakers (widows and divorcees), residents of battered women’s shelters, the unemployed, the underemployed, and immigrants. Now, David is bringing this same compassion and expertise to our military veterans here at Camp Centurion.

We are grateful for David’s service and for his commitment to empowering those who served our nation. 🙌

Camp Centurion stands with all who remember this day and with those who continue to serve and protect our communities and country.

📢 Veteran Nate putting in the work! Here at Camp Centurion, our veterans are building the skills needed for independent living — from everyday maintenance to long-term planning.

Nate is on track to transition into his own place this December, and we couldn’t be more proud of his progress. 💪
