Last night we were invited to celebrate the Tamale Hut Cafe which closed earlier this year after 20 years, celebrating visual and written art and comedy, and great food. Jaime and Lizet Flores are great supporters of the local arts and had their home on our art house tour as well. The art raffle and sell of the writers “Stories from Tamale Hut Cafe” raised $705 dollars for BPAI — THANK YOU!

We are pleased to introduce artist Tia Etu (WhateverComesToMind.com) who will be creating one of three panels in the Art Plaza.

"I am a visual artist. I create paintings, drawings, murals and sculptures. My studio art deals with every aspect of life, good or bad. My murals are ment to make people happy through color and subject matter. I believe that art in very important in ways that can sooth people which is why this project is important, it allows art to be seen and people to be happy if just for that moment”

We are pleased to introduce artist Andrea Jablonski who will be creating one of three panels in the Art Plaza.

“I'm excited to be part of the project because it helps create a space where art and community can grow together. I hope this new site becomes a welcoming place for neighbors to gather, celebrate, and make memories through future performances, events, and everyday moments. Thanks to 62 people coming out and helping with the hard part of preselecting the artists and everyone on the final selection panel, composed of businesses and residents of the 5th Ward.

This project is made possible by the City of Berwyn Why Berwyn and a Cook County Arts Creative Placemaking grant, with technical assistance from LISC Chicago Cook County Arts .

Last night was so much fun! Susan taught our final workshop at the Berwyn Lantern Parade Makerspace, and the creativity was through the roof. From waxwings to axolotls to bush babies…we can’t wait for the Berwyn Lantern Parade happening Saturday, September 26th at 6:30pm in Proksa Park. We can’t wait to see what you create!

Susan Hall is teaching a workshop THIS Wednesday at Berwyn Lantern Parade MakerSpace: Animal Head Lantern Making Workshop. The workshop will be from 6:30pm-9pm.

This year's parade is September 26th at Proksa Park. Be sure to come with your battery operated, non-flying lantern!

Join Berwyn artist Susan Hall in creating one-of-a-kind wearable lanterns. Several animal head molds will be provided, with plenty of opportunity to learn how to make a customized mold for your own lantern creation. These lanterns are sure to turn heads at the second annual Berwyn Lantern Parade September 26th, so be sure to bring them along!

This is a workshop for ages 18+.

Bring your favorite non-alcoholic beverage. Gyros will be provided by Grecian Delight Kronos.

Have you been curious of what we've been working on these last few weeks in the Makerspace? This is your chance to find out!

This Saturday the Berwyn Lantern Makerspace will be transformed into an gallery walk consisting of puppets and lanterns constructed by our own Berwyn Residents! Drop-in anytime from 10am-1pm, August 1st, for an amazing display creativity. We hope to see you there.
