A compassionate police officer helped a homeless man shave before his McDonald's job interview, turning a simple gesture into an inspiring story. 👮‍♂️❤️

In July 2018, Tallahassee police officer Tony Carlson spotted Phil struggling with a malfunctioning electric razor outside a Circle K store. Hoping to appear clean-shaven for a nearby McDonald's job opportunity, Phil received help when Carlson repaired the razor and assisted him with shaving. The touching encounter quickly went viral, and Phil later completed his paperwork and secured employment at McDonald's.

🏠 COMMUNAL LIVING & BOARDING HOUSE OPENINGS AVAILABLE! 🏠

Berwick Area Transitional Services (B.A.T.S.)
We are currently reviewing potential tenants for several communal living and boarding houses that we work with and/or partner with throughout our area.
Some of these locations have rooms available now, while others are expecting openings in the near future.
We currently have potential housing opportunities for both men and women.

🏡 WHAT IS COMMUNAL LIVING?
First, we want to be very clear: These are NOT private apartments.
Communal living and boarding houses provide individuals with an affordable housing option while sharing certain areas of the home with other residents.
Typically, these arrangements include:
✅ A private, secured bedroom
✅ Shared bathrooms and kitchen facilities
✅ Shared living spaces and common areas
✅ Established house rules and expectations
✅ An environment where residents are expected to respect one another and maintain a peaceful living arrangement
Communal living is not for everyone! You must be willing to live around others, respect their privacy, follow house rules, and understand that shared living requires cooperation and consideration.

📋 BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR CONSIDERATION
To be considered for one of these housing opportunities, applicants must:
1. Demonstrate respect for others. You must be considerate, polite, cooperative, and capable of getting along with other residents. Aggressive, threatening, intimidating, or consistently disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
2. Have a reliable source of income. Applicants must demonstrate the financial ability to pay their rent and meet their obligations.
3. Agree to a criminal background review. Criminal history will be reviewed individually, considering applicable laws and the housing provider's requirements. A criminal record does not automatically mean you will be denied.
4. Be an active B.A.T.S. client. Individuals must be registered and actively working with our organization to receive housing placement assistance through these opportunities.
5. Be willing to follow the rules. Each housing location has its own policies, expectations, and responsibilities that residents must agree to follow.

❤️ A MESSAGE TO OUR CURRENT CLIENTS
If you are already working with our organization and are still seeking housing, PLEASE reach out and remind us to review your application!

We have a lot going on between client services, outreach, developing programs, and working to expand our housing resources. At times, things can get overlooked, and I don't want someone who may qualify for an opening to miss an opportunity.
So please don't hesitate to follow up!

🏠 OUR GOAL IS MORE THAN JUST FINDING SOMEONE A ROOM.

At B.A.T.S., we recognize that not everyone can afford an apartment on their own. With today's rental prices, security deposits, utility costs, and limited affordable housing options, many individuals are struggling to find a place they can realistically afford.

Communal living and boarding houses can provide an important housing option for individuals who are capable of living independently but may not have the financial resources to maintain an apartment of their own.
We are working to help fill the void in affordable housing throughout our communities.

These housing opportunities are provided through independent housing owners and partners. B.A.T.S. assists with reviewing potential applicants, referrals, and housing coordination. Final approval and room availability remain subject to each housing provider.

Monday Oct. 12th will be in the field meeting clients, Tuesday & Wednesday closed, Thursday & Friday "OPEN."

The following week as Oct 19th to 23rd we are reviewing a full closed week for building maintenance. Preparing things for the changing season, etc..

We have two exciting fundraisers underway, and we're asking our community to come together and help make them successful!

As a newer nonprofit organization, B.A.T.S. is working hard to fill a growing void in services for individuals and families throughout our community & surrounding area.

Every day, we're meeting people who are struggling. Some are homeless, some are working but barely keeping a roof over their heads, some are elderly and living on fixed incomes, and others are simply facing difficult circumstances with nowhere else to turn.

B.A.T.S. is building more than just another nonprofit. We're working toward a community-based Social Service HUB, supportive housing opportunities, and programs that help people regain stability and independence.

From food assistance, (future) showers, laundry, and case management to housing assistance, transportation, and emergency support, we're working to provide services that many of our neighbors desperately need.

We aren't trying to reinvent the wheel. We're trying to add the missing spokes so people don't continue falling through the cracks. And bring locally what you need. Rather then travel when not needing, too. Especially when already struggling!

But building these programs, maintaining our facilities, and helping those in need takes funding, volunteers, partnerships, and community involvement.
