🛍📚 The McBride Book Cellar sells used books and media in all categories and age levels, from fiction to nonfiction, baby board books to adult, with prices as low as $0.50. Shop for used DVDs and music CDs, and there is even a small selection of used sheet music.

📍Location: McBride Memorial Library, 500 N Market St, Berwick, PA. A staircase and elevator are available for your descent to the McBride Book Cellar.

McBride Memorial Library is open today, 10/12/2026, 10:00AM - 8:00PM and is buzzing with programs!

📚 Story Time: Starting at 11:30AM, join fellow children for a delightful and traditional story time featuring read aloud tales, songs, fingerplays, movement
activities, and a hands-on project.
🐾 Books and Barkers: 4:00PM - 5:00PM, certified therapy dogs will be at the library for read-together time. Dogs are very good listeners and offer a judgement-free environment that boosts children’s confidence, fluency, and motivation, especially for reluctant or shy readers. Reserve your 15-minute one-on-one time slot at the time of the event. Ages 5–12.
🎟 McBride Memorial Library's Annual Basket Raffle is officially open through November 21, 2026! Swing by the main floor, pick out your favorite baskets, and test your luck. Ticket Prices: $1 = 1 ticket • $5 = 6 tickets • $20 = 25 tickets. Every ticket supports the books, programs, and resources you love! 📖✨

💡Brighter Days Ahead! 💡

McBride Memorial Library is pleased to share that it received an Amazon sustainability grant to upgrade its lighting to energy-efficient LED fixtures. The project was completed by Hayden Power Group and has made a noticeable difference. In the past, the library had difficulty finding replacement bulbs and ballasts for its near-obsolete lighting, but now all of the lights are working and the library looks brighter and fresher. The new LED lighting will also help lower the library’s electric bill, making this project a bright improvement all around!

Today kicks off , an annual observation started more than 40 years ago in response to a sudden surge in the number of attempts to censor or remove books in libraries, schools, and bookstores. Sound familiar?

Today, libraries continue to face record numbers of challenges to the books on their shelves. And contrary to common narratives suggesting that concerned parents are driving these challenges, data from ALA's Office for Intellectual Freedom suggests otherwise – 92% of these challenges came from pressure groups and government officials in 2025.

For this year's Banned Books Week, we remind our communities that a handful of people running organized censorship campaigns should not be allowed to dictate what the rest of us can read, and that the joy and creativity of reading is not only an act of resistance, but a freedom that must be protected.
