🇺🇸 Flags of the American Revolution 🇺🇸
Long before the United States had a single national flag, the people of the Thirteen Colonies used a variety of banners, colors, and symbols to express their beliefs, loyalties, and desire for independence. During the Revolutionary War, different military units, colonies, and patriot groups carried their own flags to inspire troops, identify themselves in battle, and communicate powerful messages of liberty and resistance to British rule. Some featured rattlesnakes with the warning “Don’t Tread on Me,” while others displayed stars, stripes, pine trees, or patriotic slogans that reflected the growing spirit of American independence.
Visitors to the House Tours of Berwick on June 13th and 14th will have a unique opportunity to view a special display of seven different Revolutionary War-era flags at one of the featured homes. These historic banners tell the story of a nation finding its voice and forging its identity.
And fittingly, June 14th is Flag Day, commemorating the adoption of the first official United States flag by the Continental Congress in 1777. What better way to celebrate than by exploring the history and symbolism of the flags that helped shape America?
Don’t miss this rare display as part of the House Tours of Berwick! An America 250th Event !
