Silent Saturday - the day between Crucifixion and Resurrection. A Sabbath day in Jewish religious tradition, a day of rest and remembrance, a commandment followed for thousands of years.
Mathew 27:62-65 reminds us that the Pharisees were not satisfied with Jesus death, but wanted his burial to be secured and sealed, in fear that disciples of Jesus might steal his body, claiming resurrection and a miracle of life after death in 3 days.
When we today celebrate the Resurrection Sunday we know the joy of His Life after death. But how did the disciples feel that 'first Silent Saturday'? They did not yet realize the Truth of His Resurrection... until they day after Passover. Even at first they would not believe and appreciate until he appeared to them, dined with them, and showed them his wounds... proof that he was indeed the same Jesus from before the crucifixion and now Alive, not dead.
Perhaps you and I might reflect this 'Silent Saturday' of how and what we would have done on such a day, as the disciples did those many years ago? Would we have felt doubts of His purpose, of our own beliefs, of imminent danger to our lives, and what is to become of me now? And, what extreme Joy we would realize in the Assurance of "He is Risen! Indeed!"
