Clarke County Historical Association Founded in 1939, the Clarke County Historical Association is a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to preserving the history of Clarke County.

CCHA is also the proprietor of the historic Burwell-Morgan Mill. Welcomes all members, volunteers, and patrons.

As we approach Juneteenth, here’s a look at one of the many incredible examples of how the Black Community has shaped the history of Berryville. This group of remarkable people formed the Union Light League during the early 1900s. Together, they worked to raise funds for the installation of streetlamps along Josephine Street.

The Millwood Community Association is hosting their annual picnic for friends and residents to celebrate "the Good Old Summer Time!" Mark your calendars for 5:30pm on Sunday, June 28th and join us at the Burwell-Morgan Mill. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share, as well as a chair or blanket to sit on. We'd like to invite Members of CCHA to our upcoming Annual Meeting this year on Sunday, June 28th at 2pm.

This year, the meeting will be held at Historic Long Branch and led by Executive Director, Nathan Stalvey. We will be welcoming new Board members as well as discussing our ongoing plans for the year ahead. Our Curator of Archives and Exhibitions, Dana Getka, will also be giving a presentation.

🇺🇸 Continue the celebration of America’s 250th anniversary with two special VA250 events taking place in Clarke County this June. These programs offer unique opportunities to explore the people and events that helped shape our nation's history.

📅 June 6 – *Lloyd Williams and The Marines: A Clermont VA250 Commemoration*
📍 Clermont Farm, 151 Clermont Lane, Berryville, VA 22611

Honor Major Lloyd W. Williams, a Clarke County native and Marine Corps hero of World War I whose famous words, "Retreat Hell, We Just Got Here!" became part of military history. This afternoon event will feature historical interpretation, community engagement, and a look at Clermont Farm’s rich military heritage.
